Rune Carlsson (musician)

Rune Carlsson (* 4. December 1940 in Stockholm ; † 9. March 2013 ) was a Swedish drummer of modern jazz who has played with most Swedish jazz musicians of his generation as well as in recent years singer has emerged.

Live and act

Carlsson started out with Dixieland and then played in the Sven Douglas Quintet when he was sixteen. Later he was part of Gunnar Almstedt's orchestra . In 1961 he was briefly a member of the Frankfurt Radio Jazz Ensemble ; In 1962 he recorded with Attila Zoller . From 1963 he was the drummer of the legendary Stockholm jazz club Gyllene Cirkeln . Numerous American jazz musicians accompanied him there, such as Bill Evans , Dizzy Gillespie , Dexter Gordon , Stan Getz , Ben Webster , Coleman Hawkins , Eric Dolphy and Chet Baker . In 1964 he also appeared in Germany in the quintet of Eje Thelin .

Carlsson then belonged to the groups of Arne Domnérus , Bengt Hallberg , Kjell Jansson, Åke Johansson , Red Mitchell , Lars Sjösten , Bobo Stenson and Björn Alke . He also played with Monica Zetterlund , Lasse Färnlöf, Alice Babs , Lars Gullin , Bob Wilber , Merit Hemmingson and on some important recordings of Krzysztof Komeda between 1965 and 1967. He was also a member of Bo Hansson's band in the early 1970s . He is also on recordings by Phineas Newborn ( Stockholm Jazz Session , 1958), Budd Johnson (1978), Nils Lindberg ( Saxes Galore , 1979), Joakim Milder ( Still in Motion , 1989) and Gunnar Bergsten ( The Good Life , 1995) to listen. In 2005 he presented an album as a singer.
