Nisse Sandström

Nils "Nisse" Sandström (* 13. March 1942 ) is a Swedish jazz - saxophonist .

Live and act

After a stay in the United States, Nisse Sandström initially played moderate free jazz in Eje Thelin's quartet . In the 1970s he turned more to hard bop and mainstream jazz ; in 1972 his album The Painter was released , for which he received the Gyllene Skivan Jazz Prize . He was also a busy studio musician. On his own albums for the Phontastic label, he recorded the album Home Cooking in 1980 with guest musicians such as Red Mitchell and Tommy Flanagan , and in 1983 with the singer Monica Zetterlund and Horace Parlan and Mitchell the album For Lester and Billie , with Zetterlund after years of TV -Work returned to jazz.

Under the title NS Kvartett he also played with the drummer Roger Johansen , at the “Summit Meeting” festival with Bernt Rosengren and Krister Andersson . In 2007 he performed at the Düsseldorf Jazz Forge festival with Lennart Nevrin's trio . He also played in the Corner String Quartet with Egil Kapstad and Jan Erik Vold .
