Fredrik Ljungkvist

Fredrik Ljungkvist (born November 29, 1969 in Kristinehamn ) is a Swedish jazz musician ( saxophone , clarinet , composition ).

Live and act

Ljungkvist, the son of a saxophonist, grew up in a jazz- oriented environment and studied at the Royal Music Academy in Stockholm from 1989 . He played with some of the city's foremost bands like the Fredrik Norén Band , Lina Nyberg's group (whom he is married to) and Per “Texas” Johansson's band before founding the Fredrik Ljungkvist Quartet in 1993 . Yun Kan 5 was created in 2005 .

He worked with musicians such as Anders Jormin , Raymond Strid and Mats Gustafsson , Marc Ducret , John Taylor , Axel Dörner and Cecilia Persson and performed as a member of Ken Vandermark's band in Europe and the USA. Ljungkvist became really well known with the Swedish-Norwegian group Atomic , for which he writes an essential part of the program. He also proves his compositional skills in his own tentet , Yun Kan 10 , which is unusually cast (with two percussion instruments and bass instruments) .
