Ole Morten Vågan (born May 8, 1979 in Brønnøysund ) is a Norwegian jazz musician ( double bass ) and arranger, trained at Jazzlinja (University of Trondheim) in 2000. Vågan is considered one of Norway's greatest talents on the double bass.

Live and act

As a jazz musician, Vågan made his debut in the Nord-Norsk Ungdomstorband in the late 1990s and had his own Ole Morten Vågan project, with which he toured for the Nordnorsk Jazzforum in 1999 . It was recorded as a radio concert for the NRK P2 Jazzklubben on the occasion of the Nordland Musikkfestwoche.

In 2000 he founded the band Motif , which he led the following years, and was awarded the NOPA composer's prize in the same year . 2001 at the jazz festival in Copenhagen he received an award as a Young Nordic Jazzcomet . During this time he released two CDs with the Maria Kannegaard Trio and can be heard on several CDs with Tore Johansen . He has also worked with Roger Kellaway , Frode Nymo , Atle Nymo , Jonas Kullhammar , Knut Riisnæs , Jon Larsen , Vigleik Storaas , Håvard Wiik , and as a regular bassist in Bugge Wesseltoft's “New Conceptions of Jazz”. He has also performed with Ivo Papasov , John Scofield and Joshua Redman .

Vågan received the DnB-NOR award at the Kongsberg Jazz Festival 2009.
