Lina Nyberg

Lina Nyberg (born February 27, 1970 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish jazz singer and composer.

Live and act

Nyberg grew up in an artist household and discovered jazz at the age of fourteen . At the age of eighteen she appeared in public, initially singing with Bernt Rosengren , Nisse Sandström and Fredrik Norén . In 1990 she founded her own quintet, but was only accompanied by Esbjörn Svensson on her debut album Close . Between 1991 and 1993 she studied at the Royal Music Academy . She made fourteen albums by 2011 and toured Europe, Japan, Vietnam, Canada and Brazil; with Magnus Lindgren she arranged Brazilian music for their big band album Brasil Big Bom . In 2012 her quintet included Cecilia Persson (piano), David Stackenäs (guitar), Josef Kallerdahl (bass) and Peter Danemo (drums). She also worked with John Taylor , Marilyn Crispell , Anders Jormin , Rigmor Gustafsson and Jacob Karlzon (joint album Temper , 2008).

Nyberg founded in April 2006, the network IMPRA that for the equality enters the sexes in the musical life. She is married to Fredrik Ljungkvist .

Prizes and awards

In 1995 she received a Swedish Grammy for her second album When the Smile Shines Through . Her album Open was also nominated for a Swedish Grammy. In 2002 she received the Jazzkannan , the award of the Swedish Jazz Association, as a “courageous and mature musician” who is constantly transforming her material . In 2014 she was awarded the Lars Gullin Prize .
