Dulcia of Gévaudan
Dulcia (also Douce or Dolça as well as Rouergue or Provence ) (* 1095 or 1100 ; † November 28, 1127 or 1130 ) was Countess of Provence and Vice Countess of Millau in her own right and by marriage to Raimund Berengar III. Countess of Barcelona .
Life
Dulcia was the elder daughter of Gilbert of Gévaudan and Gerbergas of Provence . After her father was murdered, her mother married her on February 3, 1112 to Count Raimund Berengar III. from Barcelona as his third wife. Dulcia was on the maternal side heiress of the southern part of the county of Provence and on the paternal side of Gévaudan and the Margraviate Carlat. Gerberga of Provence transferred these properties to her two days before the wedding.
Dulcia's death ushered in a period of instability in Provence as her sister Stephanie ( French Étienne ) made claims to the inheritance. The subsequent clashes between Provençals and married Catalans , called Guerres Baussenques in French , lasted from 1144 to 1162.
