Henryk Miśkiewicz (born June 2, 1951 in Żagań ) is a Polish jazz musician ( alto saxophone , clarinet , composition ).

Live and act

Miśkiewicz first completed his musical training on the accordion and was a co-founder of the Dixieland Young Jazz Band , with whom he performed at the Jazz nad Odrą Festival in 1967 and received the third prize there the following year for his composition Blues for You . He later attended the Music Academy in Wroclaw and the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. During his studies he belonged to the Stodola Big Band , then to the Jazz Carriers (1971–1975), to Sami Swoi and Sun Ship as well as to Swing Session . He presented himself at Pori Jazz and Umbria Jazz as well as many times at the Jazz Jamboree . He played with Joe Lovano , the orchestra of Paul Kuhn , Pat Metheny (in the Jamboree project by Anna Maria Jopek ), David Murray and leading Polish jazz musicians such as Jarosław Śmietana , Henryk Majewski, Jan Ptaszyn Wróblewski and Kuba Stankiewicz . He also accompanied Michał Bajor and the singers Ewa Bem , Elżbieta Wojnowska, Elżbieta Adamiak , Danuta Błażejczyk, Alicja Majewska, Irena Santor, Marianna Wróblewska, Monika Borys and Łucja Prus .

In 1994 Miśkiewicz founded his own quartet with the pianist Andrzej Jagodziński, the bassist Zbigniew Wegehaupt and Michał Miśkiewicz , with whom he made several albums; as a leader he also recorded with the Simple Acoustic Trio and the Symphony Orchestra of Polish Radio. He can also be heard on albums by Zbigniew Jaremko, Wiesław Pieregorólka, Budka Suflera , Robert Majewski , Anna Maria Jopek, Piotr Wojtasik , Ewa Uryga and Wojciech Młynarski . His compositions have also been interpreted by Janusz Kozłowski, Eryk Kulm and Edyta Górniak .

Miśkiewicz is considered to be one of the most successful Polish jazz musicians: he is the winner of the Jazz Top (readers' poll of the Jazz Forum ) in the clarinet and alto saxophone category, winner of two Fryderyks ( lyrics - record of the year 2002 and musician of the year 2004) and Mateusz ( Polish Radio Prize). He also received the Jazz Oscar for his life's work (Prize of the Łódź Association of Music Lovers). On his 65th birthday he performed with the Warsaw Philharmonic .

The singer Dorota Miśkiewicz and the drummer Michał Miśkiewicz are his children.
