Elżbieta Adamiak (born October 7, 1964 in Poznan ) is a Polish Roman Catholic theologian . She is one of the most renowned feminist theologians in Poland. Since 2016 she has been professor of fundamental theology and dogmatics at the Institute for Catholic Theology on the Landau campus of the University of Koblenz-Landau .

Research and Teaching

Elżbieta Adamiak studied theology at the Catholic University of Lublin , in Regensburg and Nijmegen . With her dissertation on "The image of Mary in the feminist theology of Catharina Halkes " she received her doctorate in Lublin in 1994. In 2012 he completed his habilitation at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan with the text “Communio Sanctorum. Outline of an ecumenically oriented dogmatic theology of the communion of saints ”.

Since 1998 she has been a research assistant in the Department of Dogmatics at Adam Mickiewicz University. She co-edited volumes 1–6 of the basic work Dogmatyka (Warsaw 2005–2007). From 2005 to 2008 she headed the research project “Reception of Church Teachings on Women in Polish Society 1978-2003”, which was supported by the Polish National Scientific Fund. In 2014 she took over the substitute professorship at the Institute for Catholic Theology at the University of Koblenz-Landau.

With her book Milcząca obecność. O roli kobiety w Kościele (Warsaw 1999) she describes the role of women in the Polish Catholic Church as “silent presence”. It is a reference work that for the first time addressed and analyzed the lack of participation of women in the active shaping of the Catholic Church in Poland. She criticizes the lack of feminist theology in Poland compared to Western Europe and the difficulties faced by female Polish theologians to exist in the male-dominated Polish culture. On the status of feminist theology in Europe, she and Marie-Theres Wacker edited an anthology in 2013, in which Protestant theologians are also involved.

Since 2016 Adamiak has been Professor of Fundamental Theology and Dogmatics at the Institute for Catholic Theology on the Landau campus of the University of Koblenz-Landau . She has represented this professorship since 2014.
