Marie-Theres Wacker

Marie-Theres Wacker (born October 30, 1952 in Kaldenkirchen , née Hüther) is a Roman Catholic feminist theologian .

Life

Wacker attended the Liebfrauenschule in Mulhouse and studied Roman Catholic theology at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn , the Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen, and the École biblique et archéologique française de Jérusalem . She did her doctorate in Tübingen in 1982 and completed her habilitation in Münster in 1995 . From 1996 to 1998 she was Professor of Biblical Theology at the University of Cologne . Marie-Theres Wacker has been Professor of Old Testament and Theological Women's Studies at the University of Münster since 1996, and on July 31, 2018, she retired. Her research focuses on the Old Testament and theological research on women as well as recent Jewish history and phenomena of Christian anti-Judaism .

The work Feminist Exegesis, published by her in 1995 . Research Papers on the Bible from a Women's Perspective was published in 1998 in English and Dutch and in 2006 in Portuguese translation. In 1998, together with Luise Schottroff, she published the Compendium Feminist Biblical Interpretation, in which the entire Christian Bible was interpreted from a feminist perspective for the first time in the German-speaking area, including selected writings that have become non-canonical. Wacker was co-editor of the theological magazine Concilium from 2005 to 2017 . From 2012 to 2015 she worked with a small staff of employees to document the approx. 400 gravestones in the Münster Jewish cemetery .

Marie-Theres Wacker is married to the theologian Bernd Wacker and has two children and four grandchildren. She is one of the signatories of the Church 2011 memorandum  : A necessary departure .
