Robert Majewski (born November 18, 1963 in Warsaw ) is a Polish jazz musician ( trumpet , flugelhorn , composition , arrangement ).

Live and act

Majewski comes from a family of musicians (his father, Henryk Majewski, was also a jazz trumpeter ; brother Wojciech is a pianist). In 1987 he completed his music studies at the Warsaw Music Academy.

Majewski performed internationally with the band New Presentation during his studies ; he also worked for Jarosław Śmietana . Between 1986 and 1990 he was a soloist in the big band Studio S 1 of the Polish Radio under the direction of Andrzej Trzaskowski .

As a result, he has participated in festivals in Poland and around the world. Recordings were made with his own bands; he also formed an international group with Bobo Stenson , Palle Danielsson and Joey Baron . Until 2005 he performed with his father in the band of Jazz Old Timers and after his death took over the role of leader.

He also worked with musicians such as Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen , Bengt Arne Wallin , Clark Terry , Nicholas Payton , Roy Hargrove , Gary Bartz , Mino Cinelu , Peter Herbolzheimer , Django Bates , Nils Landgren , Billy Hart , Jacek Niedziela, Jan Ptaszyn Wróblewski , Zbigniew Namysłowski , Wojciech Karolak , Włodzimierz Nahorny , Andrzej Jagodziński, Wojciech Niedziela , Grzegorz Nagórski and Piotr Baron. In addition, he accompanied the vocalists Ryszard Szeremeta , Ewa Bem , Hanna Banaszak, Urszula Dudziak , Anna Maria Jopek , Aga Zaryan , Kasia Kowalska , Marek Grechuta , Edyta Bartosiewicz , Kuba Badach, Grzegorz Ciechowski , Grzegorz Turnau and Michał Bajor .

Majewski was also active as a theater and film musician, among others together with Zbigniew Preisner , Krzesimir Dębski and Jerzy Satanowski . In the film And the Violins are Silent by Alexander Ramati , he made an appearance as a singer in the Nazi concentration camp .

Majewski taught at the jazz department of the Fryderyk Chopin State Music School in Warsaw, where his father established postgraduate jazz training for professional musicians, and works at the National Instytut Jazzu at the Nysa Higher Professional School.

Prizes and awards

Majewski has won numerous awards, including first prize as a soloist at the Jazz Juniors competition in Krakow (1983). With the band New Presentation he won the 1985 Leverkusener Jazztage competition . In 1990 he was a finalist in the Louis Armstrong Trumpet World Competition in Washington. As a studio musician, he worked on the film Zmruz oczy by Andrzej Jakimowski , which received the prize at the 1991 Jazz Film Saloon Festival in Warsaw that same year . In 2006, in recognition of his achievements in promoting Polish jazz, he received the Medal of Honor of the Polish Jazz Club.
