Aga Zaryan
Aga Zaryan (* 17th January 1976 in Warsaw as Agnieszka Skrzypek ) is a Polish jazz singer .
Life
Zaryan, whose father is a classical pianist, grew up partly in Manchester ; through recordings by Ella Fitzgerald and Miles Davis she was led to jazz . She studied jazz at the Fryderyk Chopin Conservatory and completed several jazz workshops in the USA.
In 2002 her first album, My Lullaby , was released (still under her birth name) , which contained jazz standards and attracted a lot of attention in Poland. The follow-up album Picking Up the Pieces (2006) was also a great economic success and led to international recognition. The album Umiera Piękno ( Beauty Is Dying ) deals with the Warsaw Uprising and was awarded a Fryderyk . The singer's other records, most of which were released by international record companies, also met with high recognition; the album Looking Walking Being achieved double platinum status.
In 2018 Aga Zaryan gave in the Vienna Army History Museum as part of the finissage for the special exhibition Fight for Freedom. Warsaw Uprising in 1944 gave a concert in which she sang several songs from her album Beauty Is Dying .
Prizes and awards
At the 1998 International Jazz Singers Competition in Zamość , Zaryan took second place. Between 2007 and 2013, readers of Jazz Forum magazine repeatedly voted her the best Polish jazz singer. As for the album Umiera Piękno 2008, she also received a Fryderyk in 2011 for the album Księga Olśnień .
