Alexander Ramati
Alexander Ramati ( December 20, 1921 in Brest - February 18, 2006 in Montreux ) was a Polish-born, internationally active screenwriter , director and film producer .
Ramati began working as a producer and director in the mid-1960s. His first major film was the US-Israeli coproduction Sands of Beersheba (1966) with Diane Baker in the lead role. In 1973 he wrote with Ben Barzman the script of the German-Israeli co-production you are free Dr. Korczak , a biography by Janusz Korczak (starring Leo Genn ). His most well-tester film The Assisi Underground ( The Assisi Underground ) from 1985 with Ben Cross , James Mason , Irene Papas and Maximilian Schell in the lead roles. In 1988, And the Violins fell silent with Horst Buchholz in the lead role. A novel version of the film, written by Ramati, appeared under the title When the violins fell silent . Most of his films dealt with World War II and the Third Reich .
