The Three Linden High School is a secondary school in the Berlin district Nikolassee and the students runs from the 7th to the 12th grade.

history

Teaching began on April 21, 1939 and the first Abitur was taken in February 1941. School operations were stopped again in 1942 due to the ongoing bombing of Berlin . The school was initially used by the army administration. After all, the building served as the central dental laboratory of the German Wehrmacht . This led to the fact that after the end of the war many dentists took back the materials they had left there. Despite the resumption of school operations, a guard station for the Soviet occupying forces was housed on the ground floor . When the US troops marched into Berlin, this guard station was closed and the school was used to accommodate US soldiers. During the war the school was painted a dark green camouflage color. This condition remained until at least 1955.

In the winter of 1947/48 there was no heating material available for the central heating. For this reason, each classroom got its own cannon furnace . The students had to provide the fuel for the stoves. On April 25, 1952 ( Arbor Day ), three linden trees were planted in the schoolyard. The air raid shelter was demolished between July 8th and 17th, 1953 . It was located at the site of today's entrance to the neighboring elementary school.

Dreilinden-Gymnasium received US Ambassador John B. Emerson on November 22, 2016 , who was critical of Donald Trump's election victory in an interview .

School profile

The grammar school offers a bilingual and scientific branch. In the bilingual branch, English is increasingly being taught; Some of the subjects geography , history , biology and political science are also held in English. In the mathematics and natural sciences focus, there are more mathematics lessons and an increase in the number of hours in the natural sciences physics, chemistry and biology.

From the 7th grade onwards, a second foreign language is taught (Spanish or French). In the 8th grade there is the possibility to learn another language: either Spanish, French or Latin.

At the end of the 2016 school year, Dreilinden-Gymnasium was recognized as one of six schools in Germany for its “exemplary welcoming culture”. The high school had previously accepted students from Afghanistan, Syria, Iran, Egypt, Palestine, Romania, Cambodia, Iraq and Bulgaria. Ina Czyborra (SPD), member of the Berlin House of Representatives, presented the award . 36 welcome students at Dreilinden-Gymnasium received their diploma on the last day of school like all other students.
