Arbor Day

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The International Day of the tree goes to activities of the American politician Julius Sterling Morton back. In 1872 he moved to the Nebraska government for the Arbor Day Resolution , which was passed in all states of the United States within 20 years . Over 1 million trees were planted in Nebraska on the first Arbor Day .

Originally on April 10th (later on April 22nd, Morton's birthday; today in the US on the last Friday in April) trees have been planted since then . The day of the tree is celebrated every year in April with festive hours and is intended to raise awareness of the importance of the forest for people and the economy.

The day of the tree was decided on November 27, 1951 by the United Nations . The German "Day of the Tree" was first celebrated on April 25, 1952. Federal President Theodor Heuss and the President of the German Forest Protection Association , Federal Minister Robert Lehr , planted a maple tree in Bonn's Hofgarten . In Germany, the Naturschutzbund Deutschland advertises its “Forest Godfather” campaign on the day of the forest to protect the primeval forests and relics close to primeval forests in Germany.
