Oslo 13 was a large-format Norwegian jazz band founded in 1981 and led by Jon Balke since 1983 , which existed under this name until 1993.

Oslo 13 was founded in 1981 as a forum for young jazz musicians from the Oslo jazz scene. The group initially consisted of 13 musicians. A large part of the music is composed and arranged by keyboardist Jon Balke, who is also responsible for the typical Scandinavian sound. Leading musicians from the Norwegian jazz scene, such as the trumpeters Nils Petter Molvær , Jens Petter Antonsen and Staffan Svensson , the trombonists Torbjørn Sunde and Dag Einar Eilertsen , the tuba players Geir Løvold , the saxophonists Morten Halle , Tore Brunborg and Erik played in it, sometimes with alternating line- ups Balke , Olav Dale , Arne Frang , Trygve Seim and Thomas Gustavsson , bassist Carl Morten Iversen and drummers Audun Kleive and Jon Christensen .

In 1981 Oslo 13 recorded the album Anti Therapy on Odin Records . For the album Off Balance (Odin Records, 1988) they were awarded the Norwegian Spellemann Prize in 1988 . In 1992 the album Nonsentration was released on the Munich ECM label; As the last work of the band, the album Oslo 13 Live was released on the Curling Legs label in 1992 .

Trygve Seim was appointed to the formation in 1992; In 1994 he took over the management of the group together with Morten Halle and Torbjørn Sunde, which came together sporadically under the new name 1300 Oslo and released the album Live in the North (2001).
