Kari Bremnes (born December 9, 1956 in Svolvær , Lofoten ) is a Norwegian singer and songwriter .

Life

She studied Nordic studies , history and drama at the University of Oslo and worked as a journalist before embarking on a career as a musician in 1986.

She was influenced by Joni Mitchell , Frank Zappa , Donovan , Leonard Cohen , Bob Dylan and the Beatles . Her first album was a setting of Tove Ditlevsen's poems by Petter Henriksen .

Most of their albums are particularly popular with audiophile-oriented music listeners due to their excellent sound quality, such as the concept album Svarta Bjørn about the historically documented figure of Anna Rebecka Hofstad (or "Anna Norge"), who at the end of the 19th century was a sleeping barracks cook hired out for the track workers during the construction of the Swedish-Norwegian ore railway and was thus one of the few women in an almost completely closed men's world.

Tours

In addition to Norway, Kari Bremnes toured Germany , Austria , France and Japan .

Honors

She received the Norwegian Spellemannpris (Spielmannpreis) three times : 1987 for her first solo album Mitt ville hjerte (My wild heart) and 1991 for the album Spor (Spur), on which her brother Lars also participated. In 2000, she and her brothers Lars and Ola were awarded the prize for their joint album Soløye (Sun Eye ).
