Yngve Moe (* 4. October 1957 in Tromso , Norway ; † 17th April 2013 in Bergen ) was a Norwegian bassist , jazz - and rock - musician and composer , who through a series of album releases, as a member of the band , Erter Kjøtt og Flesk and was best known as a founding member of the band Dance with a Stranger .

Career

Moe began his musical career in his hometown Tromsø in the band Erter, Kjøtt og Flesk , with which he was active from 1971 to 1975. The group broke up shortly after an appearance as the opening act for the Fairport Convention in Skien in February 1975 after one of the musicians was caught shoplifting and Moe, who was not yet of legal age, was then brought home by his father.

In 1978 Moe moved to Bergen with other musicians and friends. Two of them, Bjørn Vassnes and Turid Pedersen , founded the band Nøkken together with Hans Petter Gundersen . Moe joined the band as a concert musician. At the same time he also appeared with Hans Petter Gundersen in the band Rust .

In 1984 Moe founded the band Dance with a Stranger together with musician friends . He was active with this group until his death, where he achieved his greatest success as a bassist. Moe also worked as a studio session musician and was involved in several music projects, such as Son Mu , Ernesto Manuitt y Grupo and Groovy .

death

In early April 2013, Moe was the victim of a swimming accident while on vacation in Tenerife . An underwater current had carried him away and he could only be rescued unconscious due to a lack of oxygen . The treating doctors put him into an artificial coma so that he could be transferred to Norway for further treatment. He died on April 17, 2013 at 3:30 pm local time at Haukeland University Hospital in Bergen without regaining consciousness. He was 55 years old and left behind his wife and a daughter.
