Store norske leksikon
The 16-volume store norske leksikon ( Great Norwegian Lexicon; also “Store Norske” for short, SNL for short ) in Kunnskapsforlaget-Verlag was created in 1978 from two forerunner products from the publishers Aschehoug and Gyldendal - the Aschehougs konversasjonsleksikon (first published between 1907 and 1913) and the Gyldendals konversasjonsleksikon (1933-1934). Since then it has been available as a book and online since 2000 and in the paper version (4th edition) published from 2005 to 2007 comprised around 280,000 entries on approx. 12,000 pages (150,000 hits per week are mentioned).
description
Store norske leksikon is the second largest Norwegian-language lexicon after the Norwegian-language Wikipedia, which is only available online . As a print medium, despite a massively reduced circulation, it is the leading product on the relatively small Norwegian book market of around 5 million people. 250,000 copies of the first edition published since 1977 were sold. So far, 14,000 copies of the 4th edition have been implemented. This is primarily a consequence of the largely free competition on the Internet for users. The fourth edition (until 2014 at the latest ) provided economic security through the Fritt Ord Foundation (Free Word).
