Per Jørgensen (born September 9, 1952 in Bergen ) is a Norwegian jazz and fusion musician ( trumpet , vocals , initially also guitar , composition ).

Live and act

Jørgensen began his career as a guitarist and singer in the Danish jazz rock band Danmarks Plass Rock og Jazz in the mid-1970s , then in various blues , rock and jazz groups in his hometown. He gained attention through his contributions to the groups Bergen Blues Band (1977–1981, 1983–1986), New Bris (1980–1983), Tamma (1981–1985) and E'Olen (1985–1988). With keyboardist Jon Balke and drummer Audun Kleive , he formed an influential trio in 1990, which has been called Jøkleba since 1992, has worked occasionally since then and has released several albums (most recently in 2014). He continued to work with Dag Arnesen , Knut Kristiansen , Alex Riel , Jon Christensen , Jan Gunnar Hoff , Jon Balkes Magnetic North Orchestra , Marilyn Mazur , Miki N'Doye , Espen Berg and Daniel Herskedal .

Jørgensen is considered an imaginative and committed improviser who shapes all musical contexts in which he participates. With his trumpet playing and singing, he explores "the spheres of jazz that is as free as it is lyrical - and he likes to incorporate currents of Nordic folklore ."

Prizes and awards

Jørgensen was awarded the Vossa Jazz Award in 1991 and the Buddy Prize of the Norwegian Jazz Federation in 1995. In 2001 he was awarded the Radka Toneff Minnepris as a “distinctive improvisation musician” and “artist with great international recognition”.
