Bjørn Kjellemyr

Bjørn Kjellemyr (born December 4, 1950 in Bamble ) is a Norwegian jazz bassist ( double bass , electric bass ).

Kjellemyr played in Guttorm Guttormsen's band before studying at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo from 1974 to 1978 . From 1980 he was a member of various groups of Jon Eberson . From 1982 to 1985 he was part of the Frode Alnæs / Nils Petter Molvær Quartet, but also performed with L. Subramaniam (1982), Warne Marsh (1983) and Chet Baker (1983). He then played with Sidsel Endresen and from 1984 to 1991 with Terje Rypdal , with whom he also recorded various albums ("Chaser", "The Singles Collection", "Vossabrygg", "If Mountains Could Sing"). Since 1987 he has also been a member of Morten Halle and Jon Eberson's quartet , with whom he recorded four albums. In 1997 he was also involved in Bugge Wesseltoft's important album "New Conceptions of Jazz". With the singer Berit Opheim and Nils Økland he founded the group BNB . In recent years he has also toured with Rolf Lislevand's project “Nuove Musiche” and with Ketil Bjørnstad , with whom he recorded two albums.

Kjellemyr plays bass in Geir Lysne's ensemble (album "The Grieg Code"). He also recorded with Sigvart Dagsland and Jan Gunnar Hoff . He works as a bass teacher at the Norwegian Academy of Music.

Prizes and awards

The Association of Norwegian Jazz Musicians named Kjellemyr “Jazz Musician of the Year” in 1990; in 1994 he received the " Buddy Prize " from the Norwegian Jazz Forum .
