The Archdiocese of Paraíba ( lat. : Archidioecesis Parahybensis ) is in Brazil located Roman Catholic Archdiocese based in Joao Pessoa in the state of Paraíba .

history

The diocese Paraíba was on April 27, 1892 by Pope Leo XIII. built from cession of territory by the Diocese of Olinda . On December 29, 1909, the Paraíba diocese gave parts of its territory to establish the Natal diocese . The diocese Paraíba was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Olinda on December 5, 1910 as a suffragan . On February 6, 1914 there was an assignment of territory to establish the diocese of Cajazeiras . On the same date, the Paraíba diocese was elevated to an archdiocese.

The Archdiocese of Paraíba gave up on May 14, 1949 parts of its territory to establish the diocese of Campina Grande . Another assignment of territory took place on October 11, 1980 to establish the diocese of Guarabira .
