The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Montes Claros ( Latin Archidioecesis Montisclarensis , Portuguese Arquidiocese de Montes Claros ) is in Brazil located Roman Catholic Archdiocese based in Montes Claros in the state of Minas Gerais .

history

The Archdiocese of Montes Claros was established on December 10, 1910 by Pope Pius X with the Apostolic Constitution Postulat sane from the cession of territory by the Diocese of Diamantina as the diocese of Montes Claros . The diocese of Montes Claros was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Mariana as a suffragan . On June 28, 1917, the diocese of Montes Claros was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Diamantina as a suffragan. The diocese of Montes Claros gave on March 1, 1929 parts of its territory to establish the Territorial Prelature Paracatu . Further assignments of territory took place on June 15, 1957 to establish the diocese of Januária and on July 5, 2000 to establish the diocese of Janaúba .

On April 25, 2001, the diocese of Montes Claros was raised to an archdiocese by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Maiori Christifidelium .
