The Archdiocese of Pouso Alegre ( lat. : Archidioecesis Pouso Alegre ) is in Brazil located Roman Catholic Archdiocese based in Pouso Alegre in the state of Minas Gerais .
history
Pope Leo XIII. founded the diocese of Pouso Alegre on August 4, 1900 with the Apostolic Constitution Regio latissime patens from cession of territory of the Archdiocese of Mariana ; it was subordinated to the Archdiocese of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro as a suffragan diocese. On May 1, 1906, it became part of the ecclesiastical province of the Archdiocese of Mariana.
It lost part of its territory on February 3, 1916 in favor of the establishment of the diocese of Guaxupé . With the bull Qui tanquam Petrus , the diocese was elevated to an archbishopric on April 14, 1962.
