João Bergese

João Bergese (actually Giovanni Bergese; born September 13, 1935 in Savigliano , Piedmont , Italy ; † March 21, 1996 ) was an Italian clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Pouso Alegre in Brazil .

Life

João Bergese received on 1 December 1963, the sacrament of Holy Orders for the Brazilian Archdiocese of Ribeirão Preto .

Pope John Paul II appointed him on February 11, 1981 as the first bishop of the diocese of Guarulhos, established two weeks earlier . The Apostolic Nuncio , Archbishop Carmine Rocco , ordained him episcopal on April 5 of the same year . Co- consecrators were Emílio Pignoli , Bishop of Mogi das Cruzes , and Angélico Sândalo Bernardino , Auxiliary Bishop in São Paulo .

On May 5, 1991 he was appointed Archbishop of Pouso Alegre . The inauguration took place on June 22 of the same year.
