The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Vitória da Conquista ( Latin Archidioecesis Victoriensis de Conquista , Portuguese Arquidiocese de Vitória da Conquista ) is a in Brazil located Roman Catholic diocese based in Vitória da Conquista in the state of Bahia .
history
The Archdiocese of Vitória da Conquista was founded on July 27, 1957 by Pope Pius XII. Established as a diocese from the cession of the Diocese of Amargosa and subordinated to the Metropolitan Diocese of São Salvador da Bahia . The first bishop was Jackson Berenguer Prado . On January 16, 2002 Pope John Paul II elevated the diocese to an archdiocese and metropolitan seat .
The suffragan dioceses Bom Jesus da Lapa (1962), Caetité (1913), Jequié (1978) and Livramento de Nossa Senhora (1967) are subordinate to the archbishopric .
It belongs to the Nordeste 3 region of the CNBB.
