The Enterprise was a US Navy ship that was used in the First Barbarian War and the War of 1812 . Originally built as a schooner , the ship has been rebuilt several times over the years and ultimately rigged as a brig .
history
1799 Henry Spencer drafted in Baltimore , the first enterprise of the American Navy, later known as "Lucky Little Enterprise", which was built under his direction and in the same year was launched .
On June 26, 1801, the Enterprise arrived in the Mediterranean to take part in the US Navy operations against the barbarian states that threatened the American sea trade. On August 1 of that year she attacked the Tripoli , which was captured along with the Tunisian ship Paulina (January 17, 1803). In June 1803 the Enterprise carried out a series of coastal attacks and met on December 23 with the Constitution , with the help of which it was possible on January 17, 1804 to capture the Tripolitan ketch Mastico .
In the winter of 1804/1805, repair and renovation work was carried out on the ship in Venice . Spanish gunboats attacked the Enterprise on August 15, 1806, after which it had to make its way back to the United States, which it reached in 1807, damaged. From 1810 to 1811 the American Navy took the ship out of active service and overhauled it in the Washington Navy Yard . The Enterprise returned to active service in April 1811 .
In the war of 1812, the crew of the Enterprise succeeded in landing the British ship HMS Boxer near Portland (Maine) on September 5, 1813 . Repairs were carried out in Portland itself. Then the Enterprise sailed together with the Rattlesnake to the Caribbean, where a total of three other ships were captured.
The last Mediterranean expedition was carried out between July and November 1815. Two years later, in November 1817, the Enterprise fought smugglers, pirates and slave traders in the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico, confiscating a total of 13 ships in the course of the mission. On July 9, 1823, the ship ran aground near Klein Curaçao and broke apart. The crew suffered no losses.
Trivia
In the film Star Trek: Gathering of Generations , a simulation of the Enterprise is shown on the holodeck of the spaceship of the same name, the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-D), as the ceremonial location of Lieutenant Worf's transportation . In the film, the brig Enterprise was represented by a replica of Lady Washington .
