The Lady Washington is a wooden two-masted replica of the ship of the same name from 1780 . The ship has been on the Washington State's list of National Symbols since 2007 . It is used as a prop in many famous films.
history
The ship was laid down on 1987 in Aberdeen on behalf of the operator, the Grays Harbor Historical Seaport Authority , and built under the direction of shipbuilder Richard Miles to designs by Ray Wallace. The construction site is on Grays Harbor , an estuary on the Pacific , which was named after Robert Gray . Gray, former captain of the original Lady Washington , discovered this area after exchanging ships with the then captain of Columbia . On March 7, 1989, the ship was launched into the Wishkah River as part of the Washington State Centennial Celebrations . The figurehead was carved by Bob McCausland.
The "Grays Harbor Historical Seaport Authority" uses the Lady Washington from the start of her commissioning both to convey the history of seafaring , the so-called " sail training " and the preservation of old shipping techniques , but also to represent the State of Washington. Her travels took her to Canada and California . In 1991 the ship was used for the first time as a prop in a movie, here as Enterprise in Star Trek: Gathering of Generations . In the same year, for the first time, an exhibition battle was held against the Hawaiian Chieftain , a ship that is now also operated by the "Grays Harbor Historical Seaport Authority". In the meantime, Lady Washington has been involved in other film projects. It served as a database for the RLS Legacy in the animated film Treasure Planet , but was also seen as a passenger ship in The Great American West or as an interceptor in Pirates of the Caribbean . She appeared as The Jolly Roger in Once Upon a Time ... or without a name in the miniseries Pirates of the Caribbean . She can also be seen in the music video for " Can't Hold Us " by rappers Macklemore and Ryan Lewis .
A representative highlight was the participation in a healing ceremony at Clayoquot Sound on Vancouver Island , which was carried out jointly by members of the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation and descendants of Robert Gray. On his travels, Gray had a native village destroyed, and his descendants apologized for this act after 214 years.
