Once Upon a Time (Original title: Once Upon a Time ) is an American fantasy series by Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, which was produced by the ABC Studios for the US broadcaster ABC . It is about Emma Swan, who on her 28th birthday receives a visit from her ten-year-old biological son Henry, whom she gave up for adoption after he was born . This leads them to Storybrooke, Maine , where, according to him, all residents used to be characters from children's fairy tales , but who can no longer remember them.
In the United States, the series opened on October 23, 2011 on ABC. In February 2018 it was announced that the series would end after seven seasons. The series finale aired in the United States on May 18, 2018.
action
First season
On the day of the wedding of "Snow" White and Prince David "Charming", the evil queen bursts into the ceremony and announces that she will cast a curse on her. Some time later, Snow White, who is now pregnant, is concerned about the curse and therefore visits Rumpelstiltskin in the dungeon. He prophesies that the queen's curse (which he created for her) will take them all to a terrible place, where there will be no happy endings and no more magic. But he also reveals that her unborn child, Emma, will return on the day of her 28th birthday and save them all. At the suggestion of the blue fairy, Geppetto and Pinocchio build a cupboard from magical wood that can save a person from the curse of the evil queen. Prince Charming intends to use the closet for Snow and her unborn child, but Emma will be born before the closet is completed. On this very day the queen's curse begins to work, so the prince puts his daughter in the closet and brings her to safety. Thereupon he is badly wounded by the evil queen's henchmen.
In what is now Boston , Emma Swan lives a lonely life, working as a bond agent and bounty hunter . On her 28th birthday, a ten-year-old boy named Henry visits her. He introduces himself as her biological son, whom Emma gave up for adoption as a baby. Unwilling to develop a relationship with him, she drives him back to his home in Storybrooke, Maine. On the way, Henry shows her a large book on fairy tales, insisting that all the stories in it are true. Once in Storybrooke, Henry informs them that all of the town's residents are in fact fairy tale characters, banished by the curse and with no memory of their lives in the fairy tale forest. He also claims that time is frozen and that residents cannot leave town, but that the curse will break as Emma is Snow White and Prince David's daughter.
The skeptical Emma brings Henry to his adoptive mother Regina Mills, the mayor of the city, who is actually the Evil Queen. Emma finds Henry, who ran away from home again, and decides to stay in Storybrooke for at least a week. Then the hands of the church clock begin to move for the first time.
In the further course, more and more information about the history of the individual characters becomes known. Rumpelstiltskin aka Mr. Gold is particularly important. He had lost his lover Belle in the fairy tale world, whom he mistakenly believed to be dead. He also misses his son Baelfire, who has disappeared into another world through a magical portal. Rumpelstiltskin had previously treated the curse he gave the Evil Queen with an elixir of true love, which is why he can remember everything in Storybrooke, but only after Emma has arrived. When Henry lies dead in the hospital at the end of the season, Emma, now convinced of his theories, breaks the curse with a kiss on his forehead. The last episode of the season ends with Rumpelstiltskin, reunited with Belle, bringing the magic to Storybrooke to regain his magical powers. As it turns out, this was his plan from the start: because Storybrooke lies in the world into which his son disappeared.
Second season
Although the curse has been broken, the residents of Storybrook remain in this location and do not return to the fairy tale forest. It turns out that part of the fairy tale world was spared the curse, but spent 28 years in a kind of paralysis and is now again massively threatened by the ogres. The reason for this was a protective charm from Regina's mother Cora. Rumpelstiltskin wants to kill Regina, in revenge for Belle, who first kept the evil queen imprisoned in the fairytale forest and then in the psychiatric institution in Storybrooke for 28 years , and for this reason conjures up a soul sucker. When he attacks Regina, he can be sent back to the fairytale forest through the hatter's portal. By an unfortunate coincidence, Emma and Mary Margaret also get through the hatter's portal into the fairy tale forest, from where they are looking for a way back. They meet Mulan, Princess Aurora and Prince Phillip, who help them find their way back. At the same time, Cora and Captain Hook also try to get from the fairy tale world to Storybrooke. Hook was once the lover of Rumpelstiltskin's wife Milah, but the latter killed her after she had left him. He also cut off Hook's hand, and Hook has longed for revenge ever since. All four finally manage to leave the fairy tale world, albeit in different ways. Emma and Regina try to reconcile for Henry's sake, initially successfully.
A flashback also shows who Henry's father is. It's about Neal Cassidy, a petty criminal who left Emma after August told him about the fairy tale world and Emma's connection to her. Abandoned by Neal, Emma was sent to jail, where she gave birth and put her child up for adoption.
It is also determined that the residents of Storybrooke still cannot leave the city harmlessly, although the curse seems to be broken. Everyone who passes the city limits loses their memory of the past as a fairy tale character. To make Rumpelstiltskin feel the same pain he felt after Milah's death, Hook shoots Belle at the city limits, causing her to fall on the other side and lose her memory. On this occasion, a mysterious stranger named Greg arrives in town who realizes that there is magic there. It later emerges that he had already been to Storybrooke with his father 28 years earlier as a child and has been looking for his father, whom Regina had held there since then. After Greg kidnapped and shocked Regina, she told him that she had killed his father years ago. Mr. Gold finds a way to cross the city limits without losing his identity and, together with Emma and Henry, sets out in New York to find his son Baelfire. Thanks to Henry, the search is successful. It turns out that Baelfire is Neal Cassidy, which means, among other things, that Henry is Mr. Gold's grandson. This throws Gold into a conflict of conscience, as it was once prophesied that the boy who would lead him to his son would also bring about his downfall. Baelfire reached 19th century London through the portal of the magic bean. There he was first taken in by the Darling family, for whom he later sacrificed himself and Peter Pan voluntarily followed to Neverland . But he is able to free himself first and is saved by Hook, who soon recognizes him as Rumpelstiltskin's son. Hook reveals Baelfire to the Lost Boys who are looking for a special child. But since Baelfire is not the one they are looking for, they let him go.
Cora teams up with her daughter and promises that she will get Henry back. Meanwhile, you manage to turn Regina and the people of Storybrooke against each other again. Together they go in search of Rumpelstiltskin dagger, from which Cora promises to take over the power of the dark. It turns out that Cora was responsible for the death of Snow White's mother Eva, who poisoned her so Regina could marry the king. Mary Margaret finds out and swears revenge on Cora. Meanwhile, Hook in New York seriously injures Mr. Gold by attacking Gold with a poisoned hook. Back in Storybrooke, Mary Margaret enchants Cora's heart on the advice of Gold and causes Regina to play this Cora, which saves Gold and Cora dies in return. Regina then swears revenge on Mary Margaret again. For Henry's sake, although she refrains from winning his love by magic, she nevertheless tears out Mary Margaret's heart. However, when she realizes that this has been eaten up by evil since Cora's death, she gives it back to her, as she expects Mary Margaret to destroy her family herself anyway.
Meanwhile, Neal Cassidy's apparently unsuspecting fiancée Tamara turns out to be a person who hates magic. Years ago she killed a Chinese faith healer who would have been able to save August from turning back to wood. When she arrives in Storybrooke, she tries to murder August so that he cannot warn the other residents about her. August can be saved, but is transformed back into little Pinocchio and can no longer remember anything. Tamara, who has long known Neal's true identity, also has a relationship with Greg. Both work for an initially unknown organization that wants to destroy all magic in this world, and steal the magic beans with whose help one can get to other worlds. In a fight with Tamara, Neal is injured and torn through a portal. He ends up in the fairy tale forest and is rescued by Mulan, Aurora and Phillip. With Hook's help, Tamara and Greg then want to destroy Storybrooke and all of its residents, but Hook warns the others when the corresponding trigger has been activated. Regina and Emma can work together to prevent the destruction of Storybrooke. Belle regains her memory with a magic potion from the blue fairy. Since Belle stays behind in Storybrooke, Gold gives her the task of casting a protective spell to make the city invisible again. At the end of the season, Regina, Gold, Emma, David, Hook and Mary Margaret make their way to Neverland with the help of the Magic Bean to hunt down Greg and Tamara who kidnapped Henry there. Finally, it is revealed that Peter Pan has been looking for Henry for a very long time.
Third season
Neal is nursed back to health by Mulan, Prince Phillip, and Aurora. He goes in search of his father's castle, where he meets Robin Hood and discovers that Emma is in Neverland. With the help of Hood's four-year-old son Roland, Neal eventually also gets to Neverland. Mulan, who is in love with Aurora, joins Robin Hood's group after learning that Aurora and Phillip are having a child.
Arrived in Neverland, Greg and Tamara set out to find their employer, who, as it turns out, is Peter Pan and the lost boys whose plan it was to get Henry to Neverland. During a fight, a shadow tears Greg's shadow off his body, resulting in Greg's death. Tamara is hit by a poisoned arrow. She is found and healed by Gold, who has since separated from Emma's group, but is then killed anyway. Henry escapes the fight, but is captured by Peter Pan who needs Henry's heart. With the help of a trick, Peter Pan finally succeeds in getting Henry to give him his heart, which makes him immortal. In addition, it turns out that Peter Pan is Rumpelstiltskin's father, who disowned him so that he could be forever young and stay in Neverland. Emma, Charming, Snow White, Regina and Hook also end up in Neverland. There they go in search of Pan's hiding place. Since they can't find it, they go to Tinker Bell. Since Tinker Bell was rejected by the blue fairy because she wanted to help Regina but this plan failed, she initially refuses to help them. In a fight with the lost boys, Charming is hit by a poisoned arrow and wounded. Hook is able to cure Charming of the poisoning, but this means that Charming cannot leave Neverland. After Regina separates from the group in order to find a way to destroy Pan with Rumpelstiltskin, the rest of the group find Neal, who has been captured by Pan, and can free him. Meanwhile, Rumpelstiltskin sends the mermaid Ariel to Storybrooke to get Pandora's box for him, which can be used to capture Peter Pan. However, this plan fails and Rumpelstiltskin himself is banished to the can by Peter Pan. Peter Pan convinces Henry to give him his heart, claiming to save the magic of Neverland. In reality, Peter Pan saves his youth in exchange for Henry's life. Henry is preserved by Regina. You manage to regain Henry's heart and hold the shadow from Neverland in the sail of the Jolly Roger so that everyone can return to Storybrooke. Rumpelstiltskin is freed from the box on the ship. Looking back, we learn that Peter Pan is Rumpelstiltskin's father. On the way, Pan tries again to steal Henry's heart, which is now covered with a protective spell. Rumpelstiltskin banishes Pan to the can, but Pan swaps bodies and is thus in Henry's body. Arrived in Storybrooke, Peter Pan continues his dark machinations and wants to curse the city again with the help of Regina's curse and thus create a new Neverland. Rumpelstiltskin succeeds in killing Peter Pan with his dagger, but dies in the process and thus loses his ability to use magic. Since Pan's curse can no longer be stopped, Regina reverses the first curse and sends everyone back to the magic forest. Emma and Henry are the only ones who can be spared from the curse, but lose all memory of Storybrooke.
Emma and Henry live carefree together in New York as if nothing had ever happened until a year later Hook visits Emma to inform her that her parents need her. He gives her an elixir of memory sent by Neal. However, this potion is only enough for Emma, not Henry. The three of them make their way to Storybrooke, which exists again with the residents. However, nobody can remember the past year. The only clue is Snow White's sudden pregnancy. It soon turns out that the inhabitants of the Enchanted Forest fled to Storybrooke again from Zelena, the Wicked Witch of the West from Oz. This is Regina's sister and wants to work a magic with which she can change the past. Zelena was abandoned by her mother Cora because she could not marry King Leopold due to an intrigue by Snow's mother Eva. To be able to grow up with Cora, Zelena's plan is to kill Eva. After she was abandoned, Zelena gets to Oz through a storm, where she is raised by a poor married couple who, however, cannot handle their magical abilities. She later learns from the Wizard of Oz who her real family is. He also gives her silver shoes with which she can go anywhere she wants. Because of her great envy of Regina's supposedly good life, which in her opinion would have allowed her, her skin is slowly turning green. With the help of the shoes, she reaches the magic forest and succeeds in becoming Rumpelstiltskin's pupil. He thinks she is very talented and briefly considers that she should carry out the curse instead of Regina. However, when he realizes that he is what Zelena loves most, he rejects her. The sorority of the Witches of Oz, among them Glinda, the good witch of the south, accepts Zelena, but she is unable to conquer her envy and resentment and is finally allegedly defeated by Dorothy Gale by pouring a bucket of water over her. A little later Zelena Glinda throws into the magic forest. After seeing Glinda in the enchanted forest, Snow and Charming learn how to defeat Zelena. For this, however, they need bright magic, which supposedly only Emma possesses, which is why Snow pronounces Regina's curse again. Since she has to sacrifice Charming's heart for this, she asks Regina to share hers and give one half to Charming, which successfully revives him. Just before the curse breaks out, Zelena appears and adds an oblivion spell. In order to complete the magic that is supposed to create a time portal in Storybrooke, Zelena needs four ingredients: Regina's heart, Charming's courage, Rumpelstiltskin's mind and the innocence of a newborn baby, which she can gradually bring into her own. In Storybrooke initially nobody knows that Rumpelstiltskin is alive again and is being held captive by Zelena. At first, Neal is also missing. It turns out that he shares a body with Gold, as he and Belle went to a secret crypt in the Enchanted Forest to revive Rumpelstiltskin. He didn't know, however, that another life would have to be sacrificed for it. Belle and Neal are betrayed to Zelena at the crypt of the Dark One by Lumiere, so that the resurrected Rumpelstiltskin has to choose between his dagger and his son. In the end he chooses Neal, but ends up in Zelena's captivity. In Storybrooke, Neal sacrifices himself for his father, which makes Gold very angry. The curse is later broken by Regina when she gives Henry a kiss on the forehead. It is also Regina who in the end defeats Zelena with bright magic and disempowers her. Zelena is then killed by gold in her cell at night, which reactivates her time portal. Emma and Hook get into this portal and end up in the enchanted forest at the time when Snow and Charming met. The first meeting of the two is prevented by Emma's mishap, but with the help of Rumpelstiltskin, the two manage to restore the normal process. With the help of Rumpelstiltskin they travel back in time. However, they also take with them a woman who saved Emma from certain death from prison, as she was supposed to be executed by Regina. As it turns out, this woman is Marian, the wife of Robin Hood, with whom Regina has developed a relationship in the meantime. Furthermore, an urn arrives at Storybrooke without the knowledge of Hook and Emma, from which Elsa later escapes. Soon after, Emma and Hook kiss and she decides not to return to New York.
Fourth season
Elsa freed from the urn destroys it and goes to Storybrooke. After the ice monster she conjured up was defeated with Regina's help, Emma and Elsa become friends. Elsa reveals that she is looking for her sister Anna. Some time ago she went to Arendelle without Elsa's knowledge on the way to the magic forest to look for Rumpelstiltskin there. According to an entry in her mother's diary, he had the power to banish Elsa's magical powers. Once in the magic forest, Anna befriends Charming. A little later she meets Rumpelstiltskin, who gives her access to the artifact. It is a magical hat of a powerful wizard, with the help of which Rumpelstiltskin promises to get rid of the power of the dagger. Since Anna realizes how important the hat is for Rumpelstiltskin, she can finally persuade him to bring her safely back to Arendelle, tricking Rumpelstiltskin and taking the hat with him. In Storybrooke, residents find that a wall of ice has formed around the city, preventing anyone from leaving. Since Elsa does not have the power to make her disappear, the residents soon find out about Ingrid, the Snow Queen. This runs an ice cream parlor in Storybrooke. With the help of her ice, she curses Marian so that she turns to ice. Regina can prevent her death by removing her heart. Although Marian is alive, Robin Hood wants to continue his relationship with Regina, but Regina is not very happy with it. Since Regina is of the opinion that she would not get a happy ending because she is portrayed as an evil one in Henry's storybook, she goes with him to find the author of the book. Ingrid seems to know Emma, but Emma has no memories of her. Elsa and Ingrid also share a past that Elsa no longer remembers either. During their time in Arendelle, Elsa and Anna met Ingrid, who was trapped in the same urn as Elsa. After she is freed, Ingrid tells them that she is their aunt. It turns out that Gerda, Elsa and Anna's mother, had two sisters, but nobody in Arendelle knows anything about them. The three siblings grew up together, but Ingrid was the only one who possessed magical powers. Because she was afraid of her strength, she hid in her parents' palace. Finally, she accidentally kills Helga when she tries to save her from an intrusive admirer. Gerda then locks Ingrid in the urn and asks Grand Pebbie to erase all memories of her two sisters. Since Ingrid has the feeling that she is not loved by her family, she now wants to start a new family with two more magical women, in which no one would fear and love her because of her strength. She finds one of the two new sisters in her niece Elsa, which is why she tries to turn Anna and Elsa against each other. When she fails, she curses Anna with the curse of broken vision, which only lets people see the evil in others. Affected by the curse, Anna locks Elsa in the urn. Ingrid then freezes all of Arendelle and takes the memories from Elsa, but shortly afterwards loses the urn to Rumpelstiltskin. She goes to the apprentice, who tells her that her second new sister will be born soon and is called Emma. At her request, he sends her through a portal into the real world, where she tries to win Emma's trust. It turns out that Ingrid was Emma's foster mother for a short time and they had a very happy time together. Ingrid scares Emma, however, so that Emma doesn't want anything to do with her, whereupon Ingrid takes away the memories of her. After Anna has taken the magician's hat, she loses it in Arendelle to Ingrid, who later brings it into the real world. The wizard's hat appears at a house in Storybrooke where Gold and Belle are spending their honeymoon. Gold takes the hat and from now on does everything in its power to fully charge the hat and in this way to free itself from the influence of the dagger in due course. The hat sucks magical beings into its interior and thus charges itself. Ingrid tells Gold that he can only implement the plan if he sacrifices the heart of a person who knew him as a darker before his time, which only applies to Hook. He takes Hook's heart. Hook, who is blackmailed by gold, has to help him from now on to first promote the wizard's apprentice to the hat. Gold tries the same with Emma, but fails. Later, all of the fairies get sucked into the hat because of Hook, who is fully charged with it. Elsa, who is still looking for Anna, manages to want her to come to her with the help of a wish chain, which saves Anna and Kristoff from certain death by drowning. Meanwhile, Ingrid completes her vision broken curse and pronounces it on Storybrooke. Anna finds her mother's message in a bottle, who wrote it when she knew her ship would go down and she would die. With the help of this letter, Elsa and Anna can convince Ingrid that their sisters really loved them. Stunned by her behavior, Ingrid kills herself, which lifts the curse and the wall of ice around Storybrooke disappears. Anna, Elsa and Kristoff return to Arendelle, where Anna and Kristoff finally get married. Marian is resuscitated, but cannot break the curse and has to leave Storybrooke. Since she doesn't know her way around the modern world, Robin Hood decides to go with her, but this means that he can no longer return, as return is not possible once you have left Storybrooke. Belle can uncover Gold's plan and prevents it from being carried out in good time. She banishes him with the help of the dagger from Storybrooke, where he gets to New York and six weeks later meets Ursula, with whose help he wants to return to Storybrooke. They also go in search of Cruella de Vil and Maleficent.
After Mr. Gold and Ursula have found Cruella de Vil, they make their way to Storybrooke. With the help of a trick, all three gradually get over the city limits. There they want to revive Maleficent. For this reason, they trick Snow and Charming into helping them. After Maleficent is alive again, she wants to take revenge on Snow White and Prince Charming, who had stolen her child long ago. Snow and Charming needed Maleficent's egg for a spell to banish the potential evil in Emma. After the apprentice had performed the spell, he banished the egg, from which a human baby hatched, to the real world, which is very troublesome for Snow and Charming. Along with the egg, Cruella and Ursula also got into the real world. During Gold's exile, Belle and Will Scarlet meet, which Gold dislikes. From now on, he also sets out to take back Belle. Disguised as Hook, he takes his dagger from Belle. In order to carry out their plan to find the author of the book and get him to rewrite their fates, Mr. Gold, Cruella, Ursula and Maleficent take young Pinocchio prisoner. Mr. Gold then turns him back into August and tortures him to learn information about the author and his whereabouts. They get help from Regina, who works undercover with them to find out their plan. August can be released. Henry discovers the book page with a door in the apprentice's villa, which was already shown in August's notes. It turns out that the author is trapped in this book page. The author Isaac was banished to the book by the apprentice because he abused the power given to him and manipulated stories according to his will. Henry also finds a key in the villa with which Isaac can be freed from the book. By a trick he escapes Emma and August and then falls into the clutches of Mr. Gold. He also reveals that his real plan is to pull Emma to the dark side, because as long as she is the savior, none of the bad guys can get a happy ending. Ursula, who is actually a mermaid, receives her happy ending on her own, and then leaves the group happily. Her singing voice was stolen from her a long time ago because Hook wanted her father Poseidon to give him a means in his fight against Rumpelstiltskin. After the incident, Ursula breaks with her father and turns her fishtail into tentacles. After a long time, in Storybrooke, Hook finds Poseidon with the help of Ariel and the father and daughter reconcile, with which Ursula also gets her singing voice back. Cruella, on the other hand, was kept prisoner in her mother's villa for a long time. There, after years of imprisonment, she meets Isaac, whom she brings to free her. The two spend an evening together, as a result of which Isaac attributes magic powers to Cruella. A little later, Isaac meets Cruella's mother, who reveals the real reason for Cruella's imprisonment. Cruella murdered her father and her mother's two subsequent husbands with no regrets. A little later, Cruella visits her mother and lets her own dogs kill her with the help of her new magic power. Then Cruella sews a coat out of the dogs' fur. Isaac, realizing his mistake, confronts Cruella with it. She wants to shoot him, but Isaac can prevent this by robbing her of the ability to kill people. Because of this, Cruella wants to kill Isaac in Storybrooke. She kidnaps Henry and is later pushed off a cliff by Emma with the help of magic, which plays into the cards for Mr. Gold, because the killing of Cruellas is another piece on Emma's path into darkness. She had already fallen out with her parents after Snow and Charming confessed to being responsible for Maleficent's suffering because they took the child away from her. It also turns out that Maleficent's daughter is Lilith, the girl Emma calls her only childhood friend. She and Regina set out to take Lily to Storybrooke to give Maleficent her happy ending. After Lily and Emma are reconciled, the three continue to New York to see Robin Hood. Regina had recently learned that Robin's wife Marian is actually Zelena disguised with a spell. This was able to save herself from her final death in the time portal, where, shortly before Emma and Hook returned to the present, she killed the real Marian and took her place. Gold himself learned of Zelena's survival when he had to be hospitalized during his exile in New York, as his many evil deeds affect his heart and he will not live long. Zelena gets him to work with her to help her achieve her goal. She still wants to destroy Regina's happiness, which is why she plans to take everything Regina loves. When Regina, Emma and Lily are with Robin in New York, Zelena finally reveals herself and also announces that Robin is pregnant. Emma and Regina take her to Storybrooke, where Regina locks her in Belle's former cell. Regina initially plans to neutralize Zelena with Isaac's help, but decides against it. Isaac flees and allies himself with Mr. Gold, who guides him to rewrite the complete story of all fairy tale characters. Because Isaac also ascribes a happy ending as a successful author, he loses his power because the author is not allowed to use it for his own purposes. Henry, the only one unaffected by the changes Isaac has brought about, sets out to save his family. He and Isaac enter the enchanted forest through a portal, where the others are. He manages to convince Regina to help him. After Henry touches Isaac's pen, he becomes the new author and can thereby undo any problems Isaac caused. Back in Storybrooke, Regina, Emma and the Charmings find the dying Mr. Gold. The essence of the dark leaves his body. The sorcerer's apprentice explains to the group that the essence was once bound to a mortal soul by its master, the magician Merlin, so that it could no longer cause so much damage. To bind them again you need the power of Merlin. After the apprentice himself is attacked and possessed by the essence, Emma is able to save him with her magic. Next, Regina is attacked, but Emma uses the dagger of the dark to deflect the darkness and sacrifices herself. She is sucked in by the darkness and disappears. All that remains is the dagger on which the name Emma Swan is now written.
Fifth season
After Emma has absorbed the darkness, she finds herself in the magic forest. There she wanders around, driven by a hallucination of Rumpelstiltskin, which is a manifestation of her dark side. He tries to persuade her to kill Merida, whose search Emma has joined. At the last moment, Hook and the others who followed her can stop her. Along with her parents, Henry, Regina, Robin, Hook, Belle, and Zelena, Emma heads to Camelot to find Merlin, who is said to be able to help Emma in her situation. With the help of a magic wand, they conjure up a storm that takes them and Granny's Diner to Camelot. After being received by King Arthur and entering Camelot, the group wakes up again in Storybrooke and has no memories of the time in Camelot. It turns out that Emma has completely surrendered to the darkness, robbing them of memories to cover up their original plan.
Once in Camelot, the group discovers that Merlin is actually there, but is initially trapped in a tree. King Arthur is also in possession of Excalibur, but its tip is missing. It turns out that Excalibur's missing tip is the dagger of the dark. Obsessed with reuniting Excalibur because he believes that only then can he be the real king, Arthur plays wrong game with the group. Emma and Regina finally manage to free Merlin from the tree. With Merlin's help, Emma also manages to reunite Excalibur. Emma learns how the dark one came into being and why the dark ones are always tied to the power of the dagger: Merlin was once a simple man who happened to discover the holy grail while on the run in a desert. His traveling companion drank first but was not worthy of the power and died. Merlin, on the other hand, was blessed with his great power after drinking from the Grail. He traveled the countries and helped people with his magic. Eventually he met Nimue, whose entire village was wiped out by a cruel warlord. The two fall in love. Driven by thoughts of revenge, Nimue finally drinks from the holy grail, unnoticed by Merlin. However, since it uses its power to kill a human, it corrupts the darkness. Merlin then transforms the Holy Grail into a sword, Excalibur, and splits off the tip to bind the darkness in Nimue to the dagger. After Emma reunites Excalibur, Arthur uses a trick to take the sword. With Zelena's help, he ties Merlin to Excalibur and orders him to wipe out the rest of the group. During the fight, Merlin can defend himself against the influence and finally break it, but Hook is injured by Excalibur. Because Excalibur is so powerful, this wound is fatal to Hook. In order not to lose him, Emma also turns Hook into a dark one and binds his soul to Excalibur. For this reason, it also erases the memories of all fellow travelers. During their travels in Camelot, the group also meets Merida, who is looking for her father's murderer and wants to free her brothers, who are in captivity because the leaders of the other clans do not recognize Merida as their queen and want to rule themselves. It turns out that her father was killed by King Arthur. Merida then manages, with the help of Mulan and Belle, to reunite the clans, to be recognized as the queen and to rule the country.
Once in Storybrooke, everyone first tries to find out why Emma was acting. Emma took Excalibur from Camelot to Storybrooke, where it is now back in a stone. However, Excalibur can only be pulled out of the stone by a true hero. Because of this, Emma wakes Mr. Gold out of his coma. After this is no longer the dark one and all of its darkness has been sucked out of it, it is now a blank slate. By bringing him with Merida's help to save Belle through a heroic act, she makes him the person who can pull Excalibur out of the stone again. At first it seems that Emma wants to destroy all that is good in the world with the help of Excalibur. After everyone regains their memories that Emma stored in dreamcatchers, it turns out that Emma's real plan is actually to destroy the darkness. Because of this, she speeds up Zelena's pregnancy. She gives birth to a girl who is to be raised by Regina and Robin Hood from now on. Emma's plan is now to transfer the complete darkness into a single person, namely Zelena, and then kill this, which would finally conquer the darkness. However, this plan is foiled by Hook, who cannot forgive Emma for making him a dark one. Zelena flees, but is sent back to Oz by Regina a little later. Finally, Emma can get through to Hook and convince him of the correctness of her plan, so that he ultimately sacrifices himself to complete the plan. However, to the ignorance of everyone, the dagger has been enchanted by Mr. Gold and the plan fails because he is now the dark one again. Emma, her parents, Regina and Henry then decide to go to the underworld to save Hook's soul and bring him back.
The underworld turns out to be a kind of second storybrooke, where all the souls live who have unfinished business, e.g. B. Peter Pan, Cora, Henry Sr., Charming's twin brother James, and Cruella DeVil. The first thing the group encounters is Cora, who tries to send Regina back into the normal world. To do this, she threatens Regina's father, Henry Sr., to banish his soul to deeper regions of Hell, and to cause him eternal torment. Regina refuses to leave her friends, however, which redeems her father and enables him to go to a "better place". The group then tries to help all the souls in the underworld to finish their unfinished business and move on. The ruler of the underworld, Hades , wants to prevent this at all costs. He punishes Cora, who works with him, for her failure by making her a miller's daughter again for all eternity. Hades also holds Hook in his power, whom after the further rescuing of a soul he forces him to engrave a name of his friends on a tombstone in exchange for each rescued soul, so that the persons concerned can no longer leave the underworld. First, Hades selects Regina, Snow and Emma because Hook refuses to engrave names on the tombstones.
Gold, who once entered into a contract with a healer and his second child promised to save Baelfire from death, meets Milah in the underworld. Gold makes a deal with Hades to destroy the healer's contract. So that no one finds out, he pushes Milah into the river of lost souls, with which her soul is forever damned. Belle finds out about it anyway and voluntarily exposes herself to the sleep curse in order to protect her child, since her baby would be Gold's second child. The group also learns that there is a book similar to Henry's storybook in the underworld, in which anyone in the underworld can be found and that can reveal Hades' weaknesses. Hades forces Liam, Hook's brother, to work with him to remove certain pages from the book. In the end, Liam sacrifices himself for Hook and is then redeemed. The heroes learn that the sites that Hades has acquired have something to do with Zelena. It turns out that Zelena and Hades once fell in love in Oz. But Zelena left Hades, believing that Hades would only use her to get back to Zeus. Zeus was responsible for stopping Hades' heart and for banishing him to the underworld. Since Zelena seems to be the key to Hades' defeat, she and her daughter are also taken to the underworld by the heroes. David succeeds in changing Snows' name on the gravestone for his own, which means that Snow is now able to leave the underworld and take care of their son.
Meanwhile, Cruella tries to get Henry to use the author's pen, which is also in the underworld, to rewrite her fate. Cruella also has an affair with James. Henry refuses, however, and in the end there is a fight between James and David, as a result of which David pushes James into the river of lost souls.
Hades wants to grant Zelena her wish for a family, but at the price that the rest of them remain in the underworld. When Regina finds out, she turns to her mother Cora. This gives Regina and Zelena back memories that she took from them as children. In her childhood, Regina had an accident with a Cora's wand that almost kills her. In desperation, Cora brings Zelena from Oz to heal Regina. The two children become friends and soon find out that they are sisters, which Cora displeases as she has higher plans for Regina and this relationship would get in the way of her plans. She takes the memories of this meeting away from both of them and banishes Zelena back to Oz. After the adult Zelena and Regina get this memory back from Cora, the two reconcile and Cora's task is done with it, which enables them to move on. Eventually, everyone can return to Storybrooke via a portal on the clock tower, with the exception of Hook, as the heroes failed to revive him.
Hook, who has to stay behind in the underworld, meets King Arthur there, who was killed by Hades in Storybrooke because Hades sees Arthur as a threat. Together they both search for the missing pages in the fairy tale book, which they succeed. Hook is able to fix the book, giving Emma and the others the crucial clue about Hade's weak point: the Olympic crystal. He is able to kill everyone, including gods. The crystal also has the effect that the soul of the person concerned is directly destroyed without them reaching the underworld and being saved. However, this crystal can only be used with a functioning heart. Because of the kiss of true love between Hades and Zelena, Hades' heart beats again and he takes the crystal. When he wants to kill Regina with it, Robin Hood throws himself in front of her and sacrifices himself. Zelena now turns against Hades and kills him with the help of the crystal, which is then destroyed. At Robin's funeral, she decides to name her daughter Robin in honor of Robin Hood. Emma sees Hook in the cemetery. It turns out that Hook was redeemed after finding the missing pages of the storybook. However, there he meets Zeus, who resuscitates him as a reward for his help in defeating Hades. Arthur remains in the underworld, where he restores order - it turns out that the "broken kingdom" he was predicted to restore is the underworld.
During the funeral, gold can retrieve the last bit of the Olympic crystal to wake Belle after her father Moe refuses to kiss her true love. Gold itself is no longer able to do this either, since Belle hates him for his actions. Gold binds all magic in Storybrooke to the crystal. Henry wants to destroy magic because he blames it for all the suffering that happened to his family. He receives support from Violet. When Zelena opens a portal in Storybrooke to send Merida, Robin Hood's companions and Arthur's court back to the magical forest, they, Snow, Charming and Hook are also drawn into the portal and land in the world of untold stories. There they are captured by Mr. Hyde , but also meet Dr. Jekyll, and later discover that they are both one and the same person. Henry manages to destroy the magic with the help of the "antigrals" he finds in a library in New York, but then learns that he has locked his family in the land of untold stories. He can convince the people of New York to believe in magic, which brings the magic back and creates a portal in a nearby fountain. From this, Zelena, Hook, David and Snow return together with Dr. Jekyll, who managed to break up with Mr. Hyde with the help of a serum. He is in possession of another bottle of the serum, with which Regina permanently separates from her evil side and destroys her heart. Meanwhile, Gold makes a pact with Hyde that brings him and numerous residents of the Land of Untold Tales to Storybrooke. Meanwhile, the wicked queen, who did not die, pays the dragon a visit in New York, destroys his heart and swears vengeance.
Sixth season
Many people from the land of untold stories make their way to Storybrooke. During Hyde's arrest, Emma's hand begins to shake uncontrollably. She also has recurring visions of her death in which she is stabbed to death by a masked person. Hyde, now locked up, advises her to go to an oracle in the forest. There she learns that there will be many paths ahead of her, but that this may not change anything about her death. This fate is closely linked to her role as rescuer, and she learns that there have been a few rescuers before her, including Aladdin , but none of them had a happy ending. Emma hides this knowledge from her family for the time being. She also begins therapy with Archie because of her visions. A trick by the Evil Queen, who captures Archie and learns Emma's secrets in his place, gets Emma to tell her family about her visions.
Mr. Gold continues to try to free Belle from the Sleep Curse. With the help of magical sand, gold penetrates her dream world and meets Morpheus , who turns out to be his and Belle's unborn son. The sand also had an impact on the unborn child, which enabled him to test his father. The son awakens his mother through the kiss of true love. After Belle is awake again, she finally separates from Gold and finds shelter on Hook's ship, which is now moving in with Emma. Meanwhile, Regina and Zelena quarrel, after which Zelena allies with the evil queen. The Evil Queen tries to prevent the heroes from helping the people of the Land of Untold Tales to get their happy endings. Gold and the Evil Queen begin to work together and have an affair.
Together with Dr. Jekyll, Snow and David try to find a way to stop the evil Queen and Hyde. After Belle refuses the help of Gold, the latter places a protective spell on the ship to prevent Belle from leaving the ship. The serum used to stop Hyde and the Evil Queen is lost in an attack by Hyde on Jekyll's laboratory; the last remnants of the serum are exchanged by Hyde. Through this plot, Hyde comes into possession of the dagger of the dark and then forces Gold to bring it to Belle. This now has company from Jekyll. It turns out that Jekyll is actually the more ruthless of the two. Gold, controlled by the dagger, is unable to intervene. Belle is saved by Hook. When Hook kills Jekyll, Hyde dies at the same time, since they are both one and the same person. Everyone realizes that the only way to stop the Evil Queen is to kill Regina. Regina makes Emma promise to do what is necessary if the worst comes to the worst.
Meanwhile, Snow begins to work again as a teacher. She gets help from Shirin, who turns out to be Princess Jasmin. She is looking for Aladdin, the savior of her kingdom, Agrabah. Aladdin once saved their kingdom from Jafar and fell in love with Jasmine, but their duties and role as savior prevent a relationship between the two. Aladdin is later tempted by Jafar by giving him the scissors of fate, with the help of which he can cut himself from his fate as a savior. Aladdin uses the scissors, which led to the fall of Agrabah, and then goes into hiding. He can be located in Storybrooke by Emma, where he has been since the first curse. He hands the scissors to Emma, who in turn gives them to Hook to dispose of. Contrary to his promises, however, Hook does not destroy the scissors, but merely hides them. Henry finds out, but reconciles with him after an adventure together, realizing that Hook is now family. The Evil Queen, however, takes back the scissors that Henry had thrown into the sea earlier and hands them over to gold.
A falling out occurs between Zelena and the Evil Queen when Zelena, manipulated by Regina, overhears the Evil Queen and Gold kissing. The Evil Queen later summons the residents of Storybrook and threatens to kill everyone if Snow and David don't surrender immediately. The two face themselves and the evil queen rips out their hearts. Instead of killing them, she puts a new sleep curse on them, because Snow and David are supposed to be punished and feel their loneliness. From now on one of the two is always awake while the other sleeps. A kiss simply swaps roles. Regina finally manages to lift the curse by getting all the residents of Storybrooke to voluntarily curse themselves as well, whereby the actual curse loses its effect.
Aladdin and Jasmine team up with Zelena, who needs the magician's wand from Gold's shop. Aladdin can get it and finds a genie lamp. When you use the lamp you will notice that it is empty. Aladdin then puts on the bracelets that came out of the lamp and becomes a Djinn himself. Gold, however, takes back his wand and puts on a gold bracelet, which means that Belle is always able to track her down. He also realizes that he cannot hurt Zelena because their hearts have been linked since Zelena Gold healed gold in New York. Gold and the Evil Queen now want to try to get Zelena out of the way, but this partnership breaks up very quickly after Regina explains to the Evil Queen that Gold is only using her. Although Regina saves Zelena from death by the evil queen, the two do not reconcile, as Regina Zelena cannot forgive Robin Hood's death. In Belle's search for a way to stop gold, it turns out that gold is the son of the black fairy, which is where his great dislike of fairies comes from. The evil queen, who now wants to take revenge on Rumpel, accelerates Belle's pregnancy against Gold's will, which deepens the rift between Belle and Gold. After Belle has given birth to her son Gideon, she hands him over with a heavy heart to the blue fairy, who is supposed to bring him to safety and raise him far from gold's reach.
During a confrontation with the Evil Queen at Robin Hood's grave, Emma finds a sword with which she is able to injure the Evil Queen without harming Regina. Through the sword, Emma has another vision and sees that she will be killed with this sword. The Evil Queen gets to the magic lamp and wishes from Genie Aladdin that Emma's wish never to have been the savior be granted. With a trick David can get the lamp and becomes the new master of the jinn. He wishes that the evil queen got exactly what she deserves, but nothing happens at first. With his second wish, he sends Regina to Emma, who is now, due to the wish, in an alternative reality. Finally, Charming returns the lamp to Jasmin so that they can wish themselves and Aladdin back to Agrabah. A little later, a hooded figure appears in Storybrooke, who locates the evil queen and turns her into a snake. It turns out that hooded person is Gideon. This was kidnapped by the black fairy and brought into a very dark world in which time passes differently. In Gold's shop, Belle and Gold meet their now grown-up son for the first time. It also turns out that Gideon is the person featured in Emma's visions who will kill her.
Regina can track down Emma in the realm of dreams. Emma is initially without her powers, as she is not the savior in this reality. But she gets her strength back when Regina threatens Henry. The two make their way back to Storybrooke. Shortly before both want to climb back into a portal, however, they meet Robin Hood, which makes Regina hesitate until the portal is closed again. With the help of Pinocchio and the wood of a magical tree, Emma and Regina manage to return to Storybrooke. Regina can also convince Robin Hood to join them. Regina soon realizes, however, that Robin Hood from the dream country does not have much in common with the original Robin, as his life was completely different from the real Robin due to the circumstances. This soon turns to the evil queen and a decisive battle ensues between the two Reginas. The evil queen separates herself and Regina with the help of the scissors of fate. In the fight, Regina eventually gets the upper hand, but ultimately decides not to kill the Evil Queen, realizing that she must first and foremost learn to love herself. She then divides and then merges her two hearts so that both are half good and half bad. Then Regina grants the evil queen a fresh start in another country. There the Evil Queen renews her relationship with Robin Hood.
Meanwhile, Gideon sets out to save the black fairy from her exile. The black fairy stole Gideon as an infant from the blue fairy and raised him in her world, where he was confronted with torture and cruelty for 28 years. This makes him want to visit the rescuer and use her help to defeat the black fairy. However, this thwarts his plan and takes his heart to her, with which she controls him and gives him the order to kill the rescuer. A little later Henry has seizures and writes down strange signs. After consulting the previous author, Regina Isaac reveals that the signs can only mean one thing: the final battle is upon us. This is carried out between the black fairy and Emma. In order to be successful, the black fairy wants to isolate Emma with Gideon's help.
Hook proposes marriage to Emma, which she accepts. After Hook was banished by Gideon, he meets Tiger Lily in Neverland, who gives him half of a magic wand that can be used to stop the black fairy. Emma manages to free Hook from Never Land. The second half of the wand is in Storybrooke. Although the heroes can get hold of both halves, the black fairy can destroy the wand. But her plan also suffers a major setback after Zelena sacrifices all of her magic to destroy a powerful tool of the black fairy. Then Zelena and Regina finally reconcile. The black fairy releases yet another, even more powerful, dark curse that hits Storybrooke shortly after Emma and Hook are married to provoke the final fight.
Henry then wakes up on the roof where the wedding had previously taken place. He goes in search of Emma and finally finds her in a mental hospital. The curse created new memories for Emma. She now believes that everything that happened earlier in Storybrooke was actually Henry's pipe dream. Fiona, the black fairy, now the mayor of Storybrooke, offers Emma to finally leave the mental hospital and Storybrook if she finally renounces believing in Henry's stories. Emma eventually burns Henry's storybook and returns to Boston. Meanwhile, the other fairy tale characters find themselves in their original worlds. However, these begin to fall apart as the Savior no longer believes in them. Shortly before the final destruction, however, Emma finds a book that Henry had drawn himself in her apartment in Boston and remembers everything that stopped the destruction. Snow, Charming, Regina, Zelena and Hook return to Storybrooke.
Meanwhile, Fiona tries to trick Mr. Gold into fighting on her side. For this purpose, she separates Gold from Belle, although she promised her son beforehand that the two would still be together after the curse. Gold finally kills his mother with her own magic wand, with which he fulfills his real destiny and becomes a savior himself: He was predicted at his birth that he would defeat the greatest dark in the world, who would be born on the same day as himself. Worried about this, his mother begins to read all the fairy books in order to learn something about the great dark. She turns herself into a fairy through a trick with the help of Tiger Lily's wand. After her search remains unsuccessful, she finally wants to prevent anything from happening to her son with the help of the dark curse she has created. In the process, her heart darkens, as she can use any means, even killing Tiger Lily, which Blue can prevent. As a result, she turns into the black fairy and it becomes clear to her that she herself is the great dark one that her son will defeat. The black fairy is then banished by Blue.
However, since Gideon was robbed of his heart and received the order to kill Emma, Gold and Belle set out in search of Gideon's heart to prevent this. Gold finally finds what he is looking for, but cannot prevent Gideon from carrying out his assignment, as the black fairy had so enchanted the heart that all external influences did not work. There is a final confrontation between Gideon and Emma. Finally Emma willingly sacrifices herself and lets herself be killed by Gideon. After Henry tells Emma that he loves her and gives her a kiss on the forehead, the curse breaks. This was possible because both the good side and the bad side chose to do the right thing. As a result, all fairy tale worlds are restored and Gold and Belle find Gideon near them, who is now an infant again. The rest of the characters then seem to live happily ever after.
Seventh season
Henry becomes increasingly dissatisfied with his life in Storybrooke. After a visit to the sorcerer's apprentice's house, he finds many fairy tale books from other countries that tell the stories he knows in a different way. He sets out to find his own adventure and leaves Storybrooke through a portal. In a new world he meets Cinderella , with whom he falls in love almost immediately. At a ball he learns that Lady Tremaine is attaching to Cinderella the murder of the prince, which she herself committed, and offers her his help, whereby he himself is captured. With the help of Regina and Hook he can free himself from Lady Tremaine's violence. Henry convinces Regina to accompany him from now on, because she doesn't think much in Storybrooke and she wouldn't find her happiness there. During Henry's rescue operation, Hook also encounters his aged version of the dream world. Hook from the ideal world still has an open account because he has a daughter from whom he was separated and whom he is now looking for. He also joins Henry. Real-world Emma and Hook return to Storybrooke after Emma announces to Henry that she is pregnant. Cinderella is saved by Princess Tiana and recruited for a group that is fighting against Lady Tremaine's rule. Henry, Regina and Hook also join this group.
Years later, a young girl, Lucy, stands at the door of the now grown-up Henry, who lives in Seattle. She tells him she is his daughter and that his family needs him. Henry doesn't believe her because he was cursed. Lucy tricked Henry into going to her home, a neighborhood in Seattle called Hyperion Heights. There he meets Jacinda, Lucy's mother, who is really Cinderella. Henry is immediately taken with her. Jacinda lives with Lucy in a shared apartment with Sabine, actually Tiana, and tries to keep her head above water with various, poorly paid jobs. This displeases Lady Tremaine, who goes by the name Victoria Belfrey in Seattle and who seems to have power over the district, very much. Jacinda also has a bad relationship with Ivy, Victoria's biological daughter, known as Drizella before the curse, who works as a secretary for her mother. Jacinda and Victoria find themselves in a bitter fight over Lucy's custody as Victoria believes Jacinda is irresponsible. Lucy suspects that Victoria wants to drive away the fairy tale characters and separate them from each other so that they will never find each other again. In a bar, Henry meets Roni, Regina's new curse identity. After his car was stolen, he made the acquaintance of the police officer Rogers, the new identity of Captain Hook from the dream world. He soon becomes the new partner of Weaver (actually Rumpelstiltskin), an apparently corrupt police officer. A key informant for Weaver is Tilly, a young woman who appears to be suffering from mental health problems. Tilly's real identity is Alice , Hook's daughter. However, both cannot remember the common bond because of the curse.
Before the casting of the curse, Lady Tremaine, then still known as Rapunzel, lived a simple life with her husband Marcus and their two children Drizella and Anastasia. When Marcus fell seriously ill, she decided to steal from the witch Gothel and get herbs from her garden, but is discovered by Gothel. Rapunzel promises to give Gothel everything she wants if her husband gets well again. Gothel agrees and heals Rapunzel's husband, but in return locks her in a tower. Only after six years does Rapunzel manage to escape from the tower. She finds her family, but finds out that her husband has remarried. His new wife, Cecilia, is the mother of (Cinder) Ella, who now lives in the house. Rapunzel quickly manages to establish a good relationship with her younger daughter Anastasia. Due to the good relationship between Anastasia and Rapunzel, Drizella feels neglected and turns more and more to her new stepmother, which in turn arouses jealousy in Rapunzel. At Drizella's birthday party, Rapunzel receives a visit from Gothel, who gives her a poison that prevents two people who really love each other from being near each other. At first she is reluctant, but in the end she gives her husband's new wife the poison out of jealousy, which leads to her fleeing to Wunderland, where she is later killed. Gothel then reveals to Rapunzel that this was a test to find someone with a pure heart who would be eligible for the role of “protector”. The exact purpose and role of the protector in everything remain unclear for the time being.
Years after Ella's mother disappeared, the whole family goes on a winter excursion to a frozen lake. Ella enters the lake and does not notice that the ice is starting to break. She and Anastasia, who wants to help her, break in. Marcus rushes to help immediately, but can only save Ella. Anastasia drowns in the lake, which Rapunzel cannot handle. She turns to Gothel, who magically preserves Anastasia so that she does not die. In return, she wants to lock Rapunzel in the tower again, but Rapunzel manages to outsmart Gothel so that she is now locked in the tower. Since Rapunzel was able to escape once, Gothel revised the protection on the tower. So everyone who is in it can only leave it if a descendant takes his own place. Years later, Gothel outsmarted Hook, who happened to be passing by, by assuming the shape of Rapunzel. The two spend a night together. Hook procures her a magical flower that she uses to speed up her pregnancy. Since she now has a descendant who is in her place in the tower, Gothel can leave it. Hook initially stays behind with his daughter, whom he names after his mother Alice. Alice is freed from the tower years later, but she and Hook cannot get close, as he, too, has been cursed with the curse of the poisoned heart, which makes it impossible for both of them to approach each other.
At first, Drizella gives the impression of being strongly suppressed by Victoria, since she carries out every wish and command of her mother. However, it slowly turns out that she is actually responsible for the fact that the inhabitants of the magic forest were hit by the new dark curse, even if it was not pronounced by her. Her goal is to take everything that is important to her mother, as Drizella feels neglected and unloved by her because Lady Tremaine always preferred her younger sister Anastasia. During her youth in the magic forest, Drizella discovers that she herself has magical abilities. Because she has to fear for her life, since Lady Tremaine plans to sacrifice Drizella so that her pure heart can awaken Anastasia, she wants to kill her mother. She meets Regina, who for the time being can apparently dissuade her from her plan of revenge and who trains her in magic. However, Drizella pulls through her plan and darkens her heart by murder so that it becomes unusable for her mother. Then she joins the magic circle of eight, of which Gothel is the leader. Drizella threatens to utter the dark curse, which she modified so that it is almost impossible to break, which is why she is petrified by Lady Tremaine by blood magic. On Lucy's 8th birthday, Drizella is freed by Gothel, with whom she then kidnaps and poisons Henry. Because Regina doesn't want Henry to die, it is she who pronounces the dark curse, which was exactly what Gothel and Drizella planned.
In Hyperion Heights, Rogers and Weaver become partners. However, both have their own plans. At first, Weaver has no memories of his previous life, but he gets them back through Tilly. In Seattle, this is usually sedated by drugs that prevent her from remembering her fairy tale past. When she drops it, she wakes up from the curse and tries to get Weaver to remember. Rumpelstiltskin entrusted them with this task in the magic forest shortly before they were hit by the curse. He also gave Alice the teacup that Belle had damaged at the time. Tilly leads Weaver into the hiding place and gives him the cup, but he still can't remember. In desperation, Tilly shoots Weaver and mortally wounds him. However, since Weaver is immortal as the dark one, he survived the gunshot wound and can from then on remember everything. Then Weaver goes in search of the ominous guardian, who he hopes can make him mortal. He cherishes this wish because Belle died together after a long and fulfilling life and Rumpel no longer wants to be the dark one, because Belle promised him that they would be united in death.
Tilly also uses Rogers as a source of information. After Victoria tried to see that Henry disappeared from Hyperion Heights, this allies with Rogers and Roni to gather evidence against Victoria. In doing so, he comes across the file of Eloise Gardener, a missing girl, and from now on is doggedly trying to find her. He seeks help from Tilly. Since Weaver is threatened and blackmailed by Victoria, he leads Tilly to give Rogers misinformation. Rogers finds out and observes Victoria, who is holding Gothel prisoner in her building. After Victoria realizes that Ivy and Gothel are working together, she tries to move Gothel to another hiding place. She is caught by Rogers, who assumes that Gothel must be Eloise Gardener, a fact Gothel does not correct. Victoria is then arrested. She proposes a deal to Weaver, which he accepts: She provides Waever with information about the guard if he releases her in return.
Since Anastasia's accident, Lady Tremaine has tried everything to wake her up. She finds that she can resurrect her daughter with a pure heart, but the other person dies. After Drizella intentionally darkened her heart, Lady Tremaine looks for another way, which she can only implement after the curse in Seattle. To do this, she wants the help of Gothel, who initially keeps her prisoner in her building. However, Gothel refuses to cooperate, and it gradually turns out that Gothel is in cahoots with Ivy. After Gothel is freed and Victoria is released from prison, Victoria manages to revive Anastasia. Victoria had hidden Anastasia's coffin under the community garden in Hyperion Heights and was unearthing it. To revive Anastasia, she must destroy Lucy's belief in happy endings, which she succeeds. After Anastasia wakes up, Lucy falls into a coma. Weaver suspects the guardian is Anastasia, a fact Victoria vehemently denies. When Weaver tests Anastasia, it also becomes apparent that she has strong magical powers in Seattle too. Ivy wants to use this for herself and gives her sister a bracelet that is supposed to contain her magic, since Anastasia is also very afraid of her powers. However, Ivy is betrayed by Gothel, resulting in Ivy's entire magical power being transferred to Anastasia. Then Ivy is thrown by Gothel into a well that also includes Victoria, while Anastasia is recruited by Gothel for the magic circle of eight.
Meanwhile, Roni is faced with a tremendous dilemma. After she is awakened from the curse by Ivy, she is forced by this to make sure that Henry and Jacinda do not get closer and thus could possibly break the curse, otherwise Henry would die. Lucy's only chance to wake up from the coma, however, is for the curse to be broken. Regina desperately looks for a possibility and finally turns to Zelena, who now lives in San Francisco, is engaged and has no memories of her previous life. Regina wakes her up from the curse as well, and they team up to find a way to save both Henry and Lucy.
Ivy and Victoria manage to escape from Gothel's well and Victoria sacrifices her life to save Ivy, causing Lucy to awaken from her coma. In a retrospective, Gothel tried to sacrifice Zelena's daughter Robin to bring the medium Madam Leota back to life. Robin does not die through Zelena's intervention, but loses her magic powers, which she leaves to her mother, since she comes more after her father.
After her mother dies, Ivy regrets what she has done. She apologizes to Roni, Henry and Jacinda. Then she saves Anastasia from Gothel and returns with her to the magic forest, where they want to start over.
A mysterious person begins a witch hunt in Hyperion Heights. At first it appears that Tilly is the culprit, as she was found with a bloody scalpel in the victim's hospital room. However, Rogers can prove her innocence and invites her to live with him. Tilly also befriends Margot, Robin's curse identity. In the enchanted forest Alice was freed from her tower by a troll, but the villagers hunted him down because they thought he was dangerous. Alice can calm down the troll thanks to Robin's emotional support and magic.
Meanwhile, Mr. Samdi appears in the area. In the magic forest he was Dr Facilier and found himself in a bed with Tiana. In Hyperion Heights he is after the dagger of the dark, he also revives his past romance with Roni.
Henry is kidnapped by Nick, who shows him the test results, which confirm that he is Lucy's father. It is also revealed that Nick is Hansel and holds a grudge against Zelena and witches in general. As a child he was burned by Zelena, and his sister Gretel von Drizella killed when both wanted to join the magic circle. He tries to kill Zelena like the other witches, but she can defend herself and returns to San Francisco with Roni's blessing and her fiancé Chad.
Tilly starts working for Sabine's Food Truck and deepens her burgeoning romance with Margot. Another employee of the truck is Drew, an old friend of Sabine's, who was Prince Naveen in the magic forest. He also remembers his fairy tale past, as Mr Samdi woke him up and forced him to work for him because of a past trade.
After his arrest, Samdi kills Nick because he is of no use to him. Weaver's dagger suddenly disappears, which is why he steals some magic from Roni that Samdi gave her to heal Henry. However, it turns out that the dagger was with Tilly, who is also a guardian. In the past she was supposed to take on this role, but Rumpelstiltskin stopped her because he didn't want her to suffer the burden of immortality like him.
Gothel begins her plan to revive her magic circle. She enchants a policeman who finds the remaining witches for her. It is revealed that Gothel is a tree nymph and is actually from the real world. In the past, she made friends with a group of people who humiliated her and destroyed their homes and families. Gothel kills everyone except for a girl named Seraphina, who also has magical powers. The two went into the magic forest to find more witches and later to wipe out humanity again.

In February 2013 Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz began to develop a spin-off based on Lewis Carroll's Wonderland together with producers Zack Estrin and Jane Espenson . Sophie Lowe was cast in the lead role of Alice . Other roles got Peter Gadiot as Cyrus, Michael Socha as Jack of Hearts, Emma Rigby as the red queen and John Lithgow as the voice of the white rabbit. In addition, Barbara Hershey was able to continue her role as Cora / Queen of Hearts in the spin-off. A four-scene presentation was filmed in April 2013, prompting ABC to give the series the go-ahead a month later for a first season of 13 episodes. The shooting of the actual pilot episode began at the end of July or beginning of August 2013. It was broadcast from October 10, 2013 to April 3, 2014. The series was not extended due to lack of success. In Germany, the series was shown on Super RTL from September 24 to October 29, 2014 .
reception
criticism
The first season of the series has a metascore of 66/100 at Metacritic based on 26 reviews. On TV.com the series has a rating of 8.8 / 10 based on 857 votes and on IMDb.com it is rated 8.4 / 10 based on 12064 votes. Many critics rated the series extremely positively. However, Matthew Gilbert of the Boston Globe gave the series a “C +” rating, commenting, “… a series that you either love or hate, and I hated it most of the time. Her ambition is impressive; after all, we are asked to imagine Goodwin's Snow White and Parrilla's Evil Queen as modern figures. But Morrison is a clumsy leading lady, and the backstory - a haphazard collection of fairy tales - promises to come as no surprise. ”In a St. Louis Post-Dispatch review , critic Gail Pennington hailed the series as one of the“ most promising series of Fall ”and in Unlike Gilbert, he gave Morrison good reviews. USA Todays Robert Bianco placed the series in its ten best shows of the season, declaring that "there is nothing like it on TV".
