Sonequa Martin-Green (born March 21, 1985 as Sonequa Martin in Russellville , Alabama ) is an American actress .

Life

Sonequa Martin-Green was born in Russellville , Alabama , in March 1985 and graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in theater in 2007 . She has been working as a film and television actress since 2005. Initially only cast in a smaller role, she was seen in a recurring role in the series Good Wife from 2009 to 2011 . In 2013, she took on a supporting role in the second season of the fantasy series Once Upon a Time . Martin-Green starred in the role of Sasha in the television series The Walking Dead from 2012 to 2017 . She was promoted to lead actress for the fourth season of The Walking Dead .

She has played the leading role of Michael Burnham in the science fiction television series Star Trek: Discovery since 2017.
