Territorial historiography begins in 1752, when the bandeirante João da Silva Guimarães waged war with the local Botokuden and Pataxó . The Sertanista João Gonçalves da Costa laid the foundation stone in 1783 for a settlement that at that time comprised around 60 houses. In 1803 the church Nossa Senhora da Vitória was built. The area was under the city of Caetité . By provincial law n. 124 on May 19, 1840, the place became the Vila Imperial de Vitória , and came into force on November 9, 1840. In 1891 the place was renamed Vitória da Conquista .

economy

Up until the 1940s, animal husbandry was the economic basis. With road connections between the states of Rio and Bahia (today: BR-116 ) and the Ilhéus - Lapa route , the prerequisites for structural change were created. The marketing of coffee from the region, including neighboring cities such as Barra do Choça , Planalto and Poções , was made easier, and from the 1980s Vitória increasingly developed into a service center. Several universities have branches in the city.

Archdiocese of Vitória da Conquista
