Celso José Pinto da Silva

Celso José Pinto da Silva (born October 29, 1933 in Rio de Janeiro , † September 28, 2018 in Teresina ) was a Brazilian clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Teresina .

Life

Celso José Pinto da Silva was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro on March 14, 1959 .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on March 6, 1978 auxiliary bishop in São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro and titular bishop of Urusi . The Archbishop of Rio de Janeiro and Ordinary of the Byzantine Believers in Brazil , Cardinal Eugênio de Araújo Sales , ordained him episcopal on May 1st of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Waldyr Calheiros Novaes de Novais , Bishop of Barra do Piraí-Volta Redonda , and Valfredo Bernardo Tepe OFM , Bishop of Ilhéus .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Vitória da Conquista on July 4, 1981 . On February 21, 2001, he was appointed Archbishop of Teresina.

On September 3, 2008, a few months before reaching the age limit for bishops, Pope Benedict XVI. his resignation.
