Miguel Fenelon Câmara Filho

Miguel Fenelon Câmara Filho (born April 4, 1925 in Quixeramobim , Brazil; † June 28, 2018 in Teresina ) was a Brazilian clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Teresina .

Life

Miguel Fenelon Câmara Filho attended the minor seminary in Fortaleza. He studied philosophy and theology as well as social sciences at the Pontifical Gregorian University at the Prainha Seminary in Fortaleza and in Rome . At the Pro Deo University in Rome (since 1974: Libera Università Internazionale degli Studi Sociali (LUISS) ) he completed postgraduate studies with a focus on Catholic Action and Public Opinion . He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Fortaleza on December 8, 1948, and in 1949 was appointed cathedral chaplain in Fortaleza. From 1951 to 1953 he was pastor of Itapebuçu and Guanacés . From 1954 to 1967 he was a professor at the seminary in Fortaleza. From 1968 to 1970 he was Episcopal Vicar in Fortaleza.

Pope Paul VI appointed Miguel Fenelon Câmara Filho on January 9, 1970 auxiliary bishop in Fortaleza and titular bishop of Ath Truim . The Archbishop of São Salvador da Bahia , Eugênio de Araújo Sales donated him episcopal ordination on March 19 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Avelar Brandão Vilela , Archbishop of Teresina , and João José da Mota e Albuquerque , Archbishop of São Luís do Maranhão .

On February 5, 1974 he was by Paul VI. appointed Coadjutor Archbishop of Maceió . With the resignation of Adelmo Cavalcante Machado on November 24, 1976, he succeeded him as Archbishop of Maceió.

On October 7, 1984, he was appointed Archbishop of Teresina by Pope John Paul II , and on January 6, 1985, he took the post of Archbishop of Teresina as Metropolitan Archbishop. He was the first bishop to establish social communication in Brazil. On February 21, 2001, John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
