The diocese of Ilheus ( Latin Dioecesis Ilheosensis , Portuguese Diocese de Ilheus ) is in Brazil located Roman Catholic diocese based in Ilheus in the state of Bahia .
history
The diocese of Ilhéus was established on October 20, 1913 by Pope Pius X from cession of territory to the Archdiocese of São Salvador da Bahia and subordinated to this as a suffragan . On July 21, 1962, the Diocese of Ilhéus gave up parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Caravelas . Another assignment of territory took place on November 7, 1978 to establish the diocese of Itabuna .
