The diocese of Caxias do Sul ( lat. : Dioecesis Caxiensis Australis ) is a in Brazil located Roman Catholic diocese , based in Caxias do Sul in the state of Rio Grande do Sul .

history

The diocese of Caxias do Sul was on September 8, 1934 by Pope Pius XI. Established with the Apostolic Constitution Quae spirituali christifidelium from cessions of territory from the Archdiocese of Porto Alegre as the Diocese of Caxias . It was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Porto Alegre as a suffragan .

On October 19, 1966, the diocese of Caxias was renamed the Diocese of Caxias do Sul . The diocese of Caxias do Sul gave on November 10, 1999 parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Osório .
