The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Belo Horizonte ( lat. : Archidioecesis Bellohorizontinus ) is in Brazil located Roman Catholic archdiocese , based in Belo Horizonte in the state of Minas Gerais .

history

The diocese of Belo Horizonte was founded on February 11, 1921 by Pope Benedict XV. built from the cession of the Archdiocese of Mariana and subordinated to this as a suffragan . On February 1, 1924, the diocese of Belo Horizonte was raised to an archdiocese. The Archdiocese of Belo Horizonte gave up on December 20, 1940 parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Oliveira . Further territorial assignments took place on July 16, 1955 to found the diocese of Sete Lagoas and on July 11, 1958 to found the diocese of Divinópolis .
