The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Brasília ( lat. : Archidioecesis Brasiliapolitanus ) is in Brazil located Roman Catholic archdiocese , based in Brasília in Federal District do Brasil .

history

The diocese of Brasília was on January 16, 1960 by Pope John XXIII. Erected from cessions of territory by the Archdiocese of Goiânia . On April 21 of the same year, the official founding date of the city of Brasília, José Newton de Almeida Baptista was appointed the first bishop of the diocese.

On October 11, 1966, the diocese of Brasília was raised to an archdiocese. Today it is the seat of the ecclesiastical province of Brasília with three suffragan dioceses .
