The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Campinas ( Latin Archidioecesis Campinensis , Portuguese Arquidiocese de Campinas ) is in Brazil located Roman Catholic archdiocese , based in Campinas in the state of São Paulo .
history
The Archdiocese of Campinas was established on June 7, 1908 by Pope Pius X with the Apostolic Constitution Dioecesium nimiam from the cession of territory by the Archdiocese of São Paulo as the diocese of Campinas . The diocese of Campinas was subordinated to the Archdiocese of São Paulo as a suffragan . On July 24, 1925, the diocese of Campinas gave up parts of its territory to establish the diocese of Bragança Paulista . Another assignment of territory took place on February 26, 1944 to establish the Diocese of Piracicaba .
On April 19, 1958, the diocese of Campinas was by Pope Pius XII. with the Apostolic Constitution Sacrorum Antistitum raised to the archbishopric. The Archdiocese of Campinas gave up on November 7, 1966 parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Jundiaí . Further territorial assignments took place on April 29, 1976 to found the diocese of Limeira and on December 23, 1997 to found the diocese of Amparo .
