The Orquesta Matecaña is a salsa band from Guacarí in the Colombian province of Valle del Cauca .

Career

Neiver Calero, Harold Herrera and Fernando Tigreros founded the eleven-piece salsa band in Guacarí Valle in 1990. Their music included various styles of salsa and musica tropical. Their style is similar to that of other Colombian groups such as La Sonora Carruseles , Grupo Niche and Fruko y sus Tesos . With their 1991 album "Con sabor a Matecaña" they had their first hit with the title "Se morirá el amor". Other successful songs were "Gracias amor", "Quisiera callar", "Vientico Grosero", "Se morirá el amor" and "Cali calor". The latter became the main theme of the Feria de Cali in 1994. In 1996, the band changed their style of music and mixed the great successes of other artists from bygone eras with their own musical genre. As a result, they also changed their image. The Orquesta Matecaña consists of a 14-member dance orquester made up of professional musicians, the singers Fernando Tigreros and Víctor Hugo Agudelo, as well as the two singers and dancers Mairim Vargas and Diana Beatriz Cortés.
