Fruko y sus Tesos

Fruko y sus Tesos is a Colombian salsa group .

The group was founded in 1970 by the composer, producer and singer Julio Ernesto Estrada (* 1951). He had previously witnessed the development of salsa in New York and after his return to Colombia founded Fruko y sus Tesos based on the model of the Fania All-Stars , one of the leading salsa groups of the time. The first record was called Tesuro , but it wasn't very successful. After a few more records, the group became very well known and songs such as El ausente , El caminante , Manyoma and El preso are now among the salsa classics.

From 1973 , Joe Arroyo from Cartagena was also a member of Fruko y sus Tesos for a few years.
