Gilberto Pereira Lopes

Gilberto Pereira Lopes (born February 14, 1927 in Santaluz , Brazil ) is a Brazilian clergyman and Roman Catholic senior archbishop of Campinas .

Life

Gilberto Pereira Lopes was ordained a priest on December 14, 1949 .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on November 3, 1966 as the first bishop of the newly established diocese of Ipameri . The Apostolic Nuncio in Brazil, Archbishop Sebastiano Baggio , donated him episcopal ordination on November 3rd of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Fernando Gomes dos Santos , Archbishop of Goiânia , and David Picão , Bishop of Santos .

On December 19, 1975 he was appointed Coadjutor Archbishop of Campinas and Titular Archbishop Pro hac vice of Aurusuliana . When Pierre-Jean Trân Xuân Haps retired on February 10, 1982, he succeeded him as Archbishop of Campinas. On June 2, 2004, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
