The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Belém do Pará ( lat. : Archidioecesis Belemensis de Pará ) is in Brazil located Roman Catholic archdiocese , based in Belém in the state of Pará .

history

The diocese of Belém do Pará was on March 4, 1720 by Pope Clement XI. Erected with the papal bull Copiosus in Misericordia from cessions of territory of the diocese of São Luís do Maranhão and subordinated to the archbishopric of São Salvador da Bahia as a suffragan . On May 1, 1906, the diocese of Belém do Pará was raised to an archbishopric by Pope Pius X with the papal bull Sempiternum humani generis . The archbishopric gave up several times in its history parts of its territory to establish new dioceses.
