Vicente Joaquim Zico CM (born January 27, 1927 in Luz , Brazil , † May 4, 2015 in Belém ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman and Archbishop of Belém do Pará .

Life

Vicente Joaquim Zico joined the religious community of the Lazarists , made his profession in March 1945 and was ordained a priest on October 22, 1950 . After teaching at the Fortaleza seminary from 1952 to 1963 , he led various seminaries and colleges in the following years.

Pope John Paul II appointed him coadjutor archbishop of Belém do Pará on December 5, 1980 . The Pope personally donated him episcopal ordination on January 6 of the next year ; Co- consecrators were Giovanni Canestri , auxiliary archbishop in Rome , and Belchior Joaquim da Silva Neto CM, bishop of Luz . With Alberto Gaudêncio Ramos ' retirement , he succeeded him on July 4, 1990 as Archbishop of Belém do Pará. From 1987 to 1994 Zico was a member of the Commission for Pastoral Mission within the Brazilian Bishops' Conference. He was also an advisor to the Pontifical Latin America Commission , which reports to the Congregation for Bishops .

On October 13, 2004, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation. Zico continued to live in Belém. He died in May 2015 after recently being hospitalized for breathing difficulties.
