Insjön is a place ( Tatort ) in the Swedish province of Dalarnas län and in the historical province of Dalarna .

location

Insjön belongs to the municipality of Leksand . The place is a good 30 km as the crow flies west-northwest of the provincial capital Falun and eight kilometers southeast of the Leksand community center on the left bank of the Österdalälven , the left component of the Dalälven . Above the village, the river leaves the eponymous lake Insjön. Insjön is the second largest town in the municipality after its central town Leksand.

The place is on the railway line from Uppsala to Mora (on the section from Borlänge also called Siljansbanan ; route kilometers 194), which was opened in 1881 to Insjön and in 1891 to Mora. Also, the National Highway 70, which in Enköping northwest of Stockholm starts is the most important compound from this direction into the Dalarna and further to Idre and Norwegian limit on the amount of the south end of the Femundsees leads.

history

The place was first mentioned in 1325 as an eel . A church was built there in the Middle Ages , which subsequently became the center of the parish of Åhl, from 1863 the seat of a rural community (landkommun) . After the provisional terminus of the railway line to Dalarna, a little away from the original location, was named Insjön after the nearby lake in 1881 , the place also took on this name in 1884. The parish is still called Åhl (sometimes the modern spelling Ål is in use).

As part of the municipal reform in 1971 Insjön initially remained an independent municipality, but was already part of the municipality of Leksand in 1974.

Attractions

In the northeastern part of the village, by Lake Insjön, is the Åhls or Åls kyrka church , which was built from 1761 to 1767 on the site of a previous medieval building in its current form.

economy

Insjön is the headquarters and main logistical base of the major mail order and retail company Clas Ohlson AB . It has been based there since it was founded in 1918 (initially spelled Clas Ohlsson ) and today has more than 140 branches in Sweden, Norway, Finland and Great Britain . The Clas Ohlson department store in Insjön, located in the important tourist area around Lake Siljan , now attracts several hundred thousand visitors to the town every year. There is also a sawmill in the village .

Another large trading company, the Åhléns department store chain, also had its origins in Insjön . It was founded in 1899 as the Åhlén & Holm mail order company and was based in Insjön until the company's headquarters were relocated to Stockholm in 1915. One of the two founders, Johan Petter Åhlén , was originally called Andersson , but changed this very common name from the original place name Åhl to Åhlén.

There is a museum on the history of the Clas Ohlson company ; Nearby is the original Åhlén & Holm headquarters, which has been restored to its original state .

education

A little away from Insjön is Sätergläntan , which was established at the beginning of the 20th century as a vocational training facility for folk handicrafts and arts and crafts ( hemslöjd in Swedish ). One year of vocational training and crash courses in forging, weaving, sewing and woodworking are offered there today.
