Johan Petter Åhlén (born April 13, 1879 in Åhl , † March 31, 1939 on the Atlantic Ocean ) was a Swedish entrepreneur and curler .

Johan Petter Åhlén (1910s)

Johan Petter Åhlén was originally called Andersson , but changed this very common name from the name of his birthplace Åhl to Åhlén. In 1899 he founded the mail order company Åhlén & Holm together with Erik Holm in the town, which has since been renamed Insjön , which quickly became the most important in Scandinavia, in 1906 with Erik Åkerlund the book publisher Åhlén & Åkerlunds , which was taken over by Bonnier in 1929 , and the department store chain in 1932 Tempo , which still exists today under the name Åhléns .

Åhlén also played curling at the Åre curling club and took part with the Swedish team at the 1st Olympic Winter Games in Chamonix in 1924 , where the team won the silver medal.

Johan Petter Åhlén died in 1939 while on a boat trip to New York on the Atlantic Ocean .
