Ernst Rolf , born in Ernst Ragnar Johansson (born January 20, 1891 in Falun , † December 25, 1932 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish singer, actor and leader of the story .

Life

Ernst's father was a tailor and the family lived on a small farm near the Falun copper mine . As a child, Ernst performed at Guttempler events with his brother Birger, who played the piano . In 1906 he took a job at the mail order company Åhlén & Holm in Insjön . There he met the print shop manager Ragnar Åkerblom, who wrote smaller reviews and performed as a folk artist. Later both worked temporarily as the artist duo Hammarlund & Schröder .

Ernst soon quit his job, took on the stage name Ernst Rolf, and toured the country as an actor and singer. Ernst Rolf had the ability to invent melodies that stuck in the memory of the people. Some of the songs known all over Sweden, such as Ju mer vi är tillsammans… (The longer we are together) and Jag är ute när gumman min är inne (I'm outside when my loved one is inside) come from revues by Ernst Rolf.

Ernst Rolf recorded his first record on October 12, 1910. In his further career he became one of the most prolific gramophone artists . According to a discography published in 1991, Rolf had a total of 851 recordings. He also ran a music publishing company and owned two short-lived record companies. In addition to the revue screenings, Ernst Rolf also appeared in a few films. However, these were less successful because he needed contact with the audience.

Ernst Rolf was married three times, most recently to the Norwegian actress Jenny "Tutta" Rolf . He died of pneumonia in 1932 after a failed attempt to drown himself. His funeral on Norra begravningsplatsen in Stockholm was attended by mourning crowds.
