Norra begravningsplatsen
The Norra begravningsplatsen ( German north cemetery ) is a cemetery in Solna, Sweden, in the province of Stockholm County . Before the inauguration in 1827, the area belonged to the Karlberg royal court .
The cemetery is the only one in Sweden that is not managed by the Church of Sweden , but by the Stockholm City Council. It was expanded several times, particularly in the 1860s to 1880s. Carl-Gustaf Blom-Carlsson was responsible for the oldest part . Many architects were involved in the construction, including Gunnar Asplund , Sigurd Lewerentz and Lars Israel Wahlman .
On the large cemetery area you can find many sculptures and artistic decorations by, among others, Carl Eldh and Carl Milles . Many prominent Swedes rest there, including August Strindberg , Ingrid Bergman , Ulrich Salchow and Alfred Nobel, as well as the three members of the crashed polar expedition, Salomon Andrées .
