Jerônimo Tomé da Silva (born June 12, 1849 in Sobral , Ceará , Brazil ; † February 19, 1924 in Salvador , Bahia ) was a Brazilian clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of São Salvador da Bahia .

Life

Jerônimo Tomé da Silva in 1869 at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome in professional philosophy doctorate and in 1873 in the subject Catholic Theology . He was ordained a deacon on May 25, 1872, and received the sacrament of ordination on December 21 of the same year . Then Tomé da Silva taught philosophy at the Seminário da Prainha in Fortaleza .

On June 26, 1890 Pope Leo XIII appointed him . to the Bishop of Belém do Pará . Secretary of State Cardinal Mariano Rampolla gave him on 26 October of the same year in the chapel of the Pontifical Latin American College "Pius" in Rome the episcopal ordination ; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of São Salvador da Bahia, Antônio de Macedo Costa , and the Secretary of the Congregation for Extraordinary Ecclesiastical Affairs, Archbishop Domenico Ferrata . The inauguration took place on February 2, 1891.

On September 12, 1893 Leo XIII appointed him. to the Archbishop of São Salvador da Bahia (and thus Primate of Brazil). The inauguration took place on February 28, 1894.
