The Roman Catholic Diocese of Bragança do Pará ( Latin Dioecesis Brigantiensis de Para , Portuguese Diocese de Bragança do Pará ) is in Brazil located Roman Catholic diocese based in Bragança in the state of Pará .

history

The diocese of Bragança do Pará was on April 14, 1928 by Pope Pius XI. Established with the Apostolic Constitution Romanus Pontifex from cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of Belém do Pará as the Territorial Prelature Gurupi . The Territorial Prelature Gurupi was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Belém do Pará as a suffragan . On February 3, 1934, the Territorial Prelature Gurupi was renamed Territorial Prelature Guamá .

On October 16, 1979, the Territorial Prelature of Guamá was raised to a diocese by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Cum Praelatura . The diocese of Guamá was renamed the Diocese of Bragança do Pará on October 13, 1981 . On December 29, 2004, the diocese of Bragança do Pará gave up parts of its territory to establish the diocese of Castanhal .
