history
The diocese of Castanhal was established on December 29, 2004 by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Ad efficacius providendum from cessions of territory from the Archdiocese of Belém do Pará and the Diocese of Bragança do Pará . It was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Belém do Pará as a suffragan . First Bishop was Carlos Verzeletti .
