The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Botucatu ( Latin Archidioecesis Botucatuensis , Portuguese Arquidiocese [de Sant'Ana] de Botucatu ) is in Brazil located Roman Catholic Archdiocese based in Botucatu in the state of São Paulo .

history

The Archdiocese of Botucatu was established on June 7, 1908 by Pope Pius X. with the Apostolic Constitution Dioecesium nimiam from cession of territory from the Archdiocese of São Paulo as the Diocese of Botucatu . The diocese of Botucatu was subordinated to the Archdiocese of São Paulo as a suffragan . The Diocese of Botucatu gave up on July 4, 1924 parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Sorocaba . Further territorial assignments took place on June 21, 1926 to found the diocese of Cafelândia and on November 30, 1928 to found the diocese of Assis .

On April 19, 1958, the Diocese of Botucatu was by Pope Pius XII. raised to an archbishopric with the Apostolic Constitution Sacrorum antistitum . The Archdiocese of Botucatu gave up on February 15, 1964 parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Bauru . Further assignments of territory took place on March 2, 1968 to found the diocese of Itapeva and on December 30, 1998 to found the diocese of Ourinhos .
